Hey everyone,

I just want to present my fork of the Jerboa app, to backport it for Android 5.0 through 7.x, for anyone that still has older (but not too old) phones. Codenames Lollipop, Marshmellow and Nougat supported.

Let me know if this is helpful for you, or if there are any major crashes/strange bugs that aren't present on newer devices.

No guarantees that I will update it but we will see. Thanks, Rentlar

I think it would be preferable to upstream these changes.

Yes, supporting older hardware is great and cursorily looking at the changes it seems that it can be upstreamed (with platform checks). However, I'm not sure if those versions of android are still receiving security updates and if the Jerboa developer wants to take on that responsibility.

I can upstream them, I've done so in a new branch but my plan is to still only update it when the app or Lemmy backend has major changes.

I had decided against making a pull request because I wouldn't want to burden the main developer with support requests for older versions.

Wise move because he is pretty busy with this project right now lol

Why was this done? And will it be available on F-Droid?

I wanted to, I guess? I have a random Samsung Galaxy S4 sitting around I use every now and then.
