If only I could be so grossly incandescent...

I guess if we had a sun god instead of Christianity, climate change wouldn't be a thing.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 hours ago

Sure it would. Global warming is the will of the Sun God. Praise be.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The sun is a woke conspiracy!

Reminds me of that one Star Trek episode

Spock: curious that a modern culture is worshiping the Sun

Uhura: they are worshiping Jesus

Spock:

The sun is billions of years old, unimaginably powerful, and it makes life on Earth possible. Sounds pretty godlike to me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

That's basically the reason I have a massive sun tattoo taking up my entire right shoulder

From a Tumblr post that has been reposted a few times (in fact, my link is to the earliest repost I could find, as I think the original is long gone):

The sun is probably the closest thing we’ll ever have to a true Eldritch Abomination. Hear me out here-

  • Older than recorded history; was here longer than any of us and will be here long after we leave. Has a finite beginning and end but is still incomprehensibly ancient
  • Burns itself into your vision instantly and can blind you if you look for too long
  • Further prolonged exposure can cause cancerous growths
  • Non-humanoid shape floating through space; colossal flaming tentacles angrily lash out on occasion
  • Sort of just appeared one day and is now surrounded by the corpses of its stillborn children
  • People used to sacrifice other people to appease it
  • Pretty sure it screams at us sometimes

It may wipe out all life on Earth at any moment with the equivalent of a fart and not notice.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

And it's constantly screaming at us.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 12 hours ago

And when it gets mad it turns off our cell reception

[–] [email protected] 8 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

It is good. But Is "opening the chest to sacrifice the heart of people" good?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 35 minutes ago

Better than burning "witches" alive.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

Not great, sure, but I'd trade a few hearts to keep the sun around. And yes, if it meant me too that'd be fine.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'd sacrifice a few people to appease the sun during summer if it meant less heat.
Unfortunately humanity is angering another deity: Earth. The sun does not care about our pollution, but Earth is vengeful.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 hours ago

It's my dark secret dream that the most powerful people who are fatally ignorant... sacrifice themselves. 🧘🏾‍♀️

Sun worship I could get behind, as long as it's not used to exert power over others. The sun is real and it powers almost all life on earth.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

🤣 You're actually right, the sun has done more for us than all the made up Gods combined!

~~George Carlin - The sun worshipper~~

Never mind, someone got it below

I’ve really liked switching to celebrating the solar holidays (solstices, equinoxes, and midway points between them). They’re good times to take walks and think about life and the natural world

Imagine doing a 3-years crusade only to be burned like that when you finally get there.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 12 hours ago

I once went to see the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. It's very beautiful, and I'll happily visit again when it's finally finished. However, when the tour guide told me to look up at the tower of Michael, or whichever butt buddy of Jesus it was, I could only see the one true god.

It's sad that former colonies are some of the most ardent believers in the Abrahamic lies.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I still can't get over the fact that so many black people are neck deep into Christianity... The Bible was/is used to justify slavery and their ancestors were ripped from their home by Christians who saw them as sub human...

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 hours ago

The diocese investigated itself and found nothing wrong.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

There is nothing especially sad about it, all religions are equally good/bad.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 14 hours ago

That's beside the point. I'm talking about the believers and their level of belief.

Seeing this meme then coming to the comments section to see this posted within 15 minutes. What can I say, it feels like I'm finally home.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 13 hours ago

Darn, you beat me to it.

I'm glad he went when he did because he'd be disappointed to see us today.
