I finally decided I should complain about the almost weekly, and getting worse, networking issues (a reboot fixes it, though nothing else will). After talking to Google, they suggested I send the device in for repairs. "Uh.. ok. How many spare phones do YOU have?" "Let me see if there's an alternative".

So they sent me a replacement, putting a hold on my card so I send back mine. Sure. I can live with that.

New (refurbished, I'm pretty sure) phone arrived today. Spent the day reinstalling everything. The bank apps are the worst...

A little while ago, while watching a movie at home, I noticed the phone was constantly (like every few minutes) rebooting. Sigh.

Guess I'll be calling Google again tomorrow. What a pain.

These both seem like known issues with the pixel 8. Can someone tell me if the pixel 9 is better in the reliability department?

The Pixel 9 is broken. The correct question is if we've figured out how it's broken or need more time.

I have had a pixel 8 for a year and I never had any of the issues you describe. Hopefully you just had a lemon and the new one will work fine for you.

Several reboots on the first day is what I see too because the phone is updating itself to the latest version and patches.

Soon it will be stable.

It's not updates. I took care of those myself. It's fully up to date in all ways, just sitting there restarting.

The quality control just isn't where it should be for the prices they ask.

My first pixel 8's screen coating started coming off leading to blurry spots. They sent me to ubreakifix.. who broke the proximity sensor then couldn't fix it. Told me to go back to Google.

Google said they'd send me a new (not refurb) phone as this was like less than 2 months after getting the phone. Anyways the refurb came (CSR lied), I sent the old one back.

This one seems to overheat sometimes and get really slow. So slow that it takes like 10 seconds to open the camera.

Maybe I'll try Sammy next time? Idk.

I got the pixel 8 at release, had to return it because the wireless charging stopped working. I was lucky to have a shitty old phone around and their customer service was pretty good about it. Considered as a teething problem, but then a month ago I had the same issue and this time they were horrible to deal with. Finally got a replacement, opened it to check it was all there and traded it in for a discount on a Samsung. The customer service in the chat on the second occasion was trying to tell me I needed the original invoice the second to prove it was still in warranty, I was like 1. You guys sent me this replacement phone and 2. It hasn't been available long enough to be out of warranty. When I asked for them to escalate the chat, they just ended it.

I gave up on Pixels this year. I went through three or four within about two years. The main problem for me was that light falls would frequently result in completely broken screens, even in an otterbox. Then several small drops of water rendered the screen unusable. And then there was a manufacturer defect that was covered under warranty. I got it fixed for free, then it came back in three months. I was in and out of repair shops every couple months. Even with insurance and free screen replacements, I just couldn't continue to live that way.

So yeah, I'm back to using Samsungs.

The USB port on my Pixel 7 Pro stopped working within 2 months. They did send a replacement, and this one is still working, but connection is funky for data sometimes, and I can't bump it or it'll disconnect.

I have that on my tablet with most usb c cables. Anker cables are especially bad. And my ikea cable works perfectly.
