For those who haven't read it, it will cost the taxpayer more because he'd need more security if he was sitting in a different seat

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 months ago

This is totally reasonable and no he couldn't buy those same tickets himself and no I'm not taking any questions

That does actually sound like a good point.

Sitting in the cheap seats to look like one of the people, and costing a fortune in security, would no doubt attract equal viritrol.

To be fair, his salary is ~~"only" £75,440 which isn't as much as I was expecting.~~ (see below) But he also gets £25k a year in free gifts according to the article so...

Give all MPs a pay rise of £10k and cut off all the expenses and bribery bullshit. And no, I won't be taking any questions on this one either, because we all know easy solutions suggested by people who know nothing about the problem always work first try

EDIT having looked again, it seems like he actually gets £170k P.A. (the prime minister's salary is on top of his MP's salary) so fuck him, he can afford his own football tickets.

EDIT 2 and presumably 4 years of not paying rent or bills, so double fuck him

Prime Ministers get invited to all kinds of events, this isn't particularly remarkable in my view.

Because it's absolutely essential that he's present for the match, right?

Asking people to give up their lives, hobbies, and anything that brings them joy when they go into politics isn't the way to get quality candidates.

Not going to a football match doesn't mean you have to give up everything that makes you happy.

If that's literally the only thing that'd make him happy, he's got much bigger problems in life.

A quality candidate would be a person that wasn't a football loony.

How dare they enjoy things!

He's an Arsenal fan. Asking him not to watch them play is just unrealistic.

Starmer is going to single handedly destroy the Labour party. He's such a typical neolib thief. What exactly is the point of even voting for his Labour over the Tories? Their policy positions and tendency to corruptly profit off power has reached full parity now that Starker has purged every real Labour candidate from Labour.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I think that's a massive over reaction to the general situation. There are noticeable changes taking place to undo the Tory damage to the country. He and Labor are far from perfect, but to question the point of why you would vote Labour over Tory is just insanity.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

100% agree, we are in a far better situation now. I was really hoping he would be beyond reproach, and we could completely turn a corner on the the political sleaze, even if it is just a few suits and football tickets.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 months ago

Yet more austerity seems like the definition of insanity -- trying the same thing over and over, expecting a different result

Thanks Keith

So he's admitting that he would misappropriate funds?
