Now onto the rest. The trade is the easiest one imho, combat is doable and I have no idea about anything that came with Odyssey.

It was a okay game but the grind got too boring. I just headed out one day to the other side of the galaxy and when I get on I just jump refuel and jump again.
I went on a 40,000ly journey just meandering to whatever area looked cool. I also went hunting for earth-likes so I could get my username attached to something in the game.
Once I got back..... I just didn't feel like playing anymore.
Easily 2k hours in the game. Clearly I was okay with the grind for quite awhile.... But nothing stays entertaining forever.
I have 2 ways to make long trips like this better:

Pick a destination and every day, choose a close poi listed on gec that is in the direction of your destination

Go to https://www.edsm.net/en/expeditions and look for an expedition that hasn't started yet (most of these will need you to join a discord) or join the PTN discord (of booze cruise fame) as they do smaller expeditions occasionally
How long did this take you?
I reset my progress at the end of 2023 and have been playing semi regularly since then
