General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

It would be almost as recklessly stupid as cancelling it to not bring it back.

The west coast main line is at capacity today and it's only gonna get worse. This infrastructure was needed 10 years ago and it's at the point now where we're gonna have to push more and more freight onto roads

It's mad how it's taken us so long to sort this out.

It's almost like someone didn't want this happening...

It’s good that the Tories were too incompetent to sell the safeguarded land to their donors/old school chums at a pittance before the clock ran out. And as such, reinstating the line is a no-brainer. Not building it will result in most of the money still being spent, with only a marginally useful shuttle service between London and Birmingham to show for it.

Didn't the tories immediately sell off all the hs2 land they bought to their mates

No, I don’t think any of the land has been sold yet. They started the process, but it takes ages and can be stopped if Labour wants to.

That was just the free handout part. Now they can sell it again for even more money!
