For real though, since I joined Lemmy (last Friday, 4 days into blackout) I probably spend as much daily time here as I spent there before blackout πŸ˜… but I'm enjoying it !

It's nice to see posts made by real people; this way (using Lemmy), you realize just how much bots' crap is Reddit made of.

[–] DoubleCore@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Agree. The lack of bots, sponsored posts and AutoMod comments are a breath of fresh air

[–] Dick_Justice@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

oh man I do not miss scrolling past the thousand word automod essay on every freaking post. I kinda miss sorting by controversial though.

[–] Kurumatron@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

That reminds me of r/shitposting, there used to be a time where you could ruin an entire post and have like more than 50 replies of the autobot alone

[–] faboosh@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Lemmy is the first platform I've come across that I'm actually excited to use in many years. Being federated and not motivated by profits (with all the tracking and selling of personal information that it entails) makes me feel like I'm not the product.

[–] god 1 points 2 years ago

Your information is freely available through the API of these platforms so I could track you myself now 😌😌

[–] ThaijsClan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Same here, it took me a while to figure out how Lemmy works, but I think I'm getting it. Honestly I can't believe I haven't found out about this before now. Go fediverse!

[–] Skellybones@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Best way to fight an addiction is to get addicted to something else

[–] IamtheMorgz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Excuse me, does anyone know how to delete someone else's post? I'm in this picture and I don't like it.

Just kidding, I love it here.

[–] god 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, I know how. Just press the button work the forbidden on it, go to the previous page and reload. Gone!

[–] anirbanbiswas@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

My addiction is worse now.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_ 3 points 2 years ago

Hey, at least it's not ~~crack~~ reddit

[–] kozel@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Me: I have to spend less time on social media.
Also me: Federation is right thing. Do not leave!

[–] Dettweiler42@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

The first few days were kind of tough; but once I started finding communities I liked, my feed got pretty nice.

[–] telllos@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

LoL. I wasn't really distracted by random subs on reddit. But on Lemmy. People are into flashlights???!!

[–] ThaijsClan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I know! Thank God I'm not the only one. I've been seeing that community constantly while trying to figure out how to use Lemmy.

[–] MiddleWeigh@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It's even worse now tbh lol!

[–] needthosepylons@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Indeed! This is where reddit goes to die, to paraphrase a great contemporary philosopher (/s/s/s, ΓΌber/s, in case it's needed)

[–] god 1 points 2 years ago

I don't even know what you said, much less where the sarcasm was.

[–] Ni@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

We've got to spend the time to help the place grow! (and other excuses)

[–] lnm225 2 points 2 years ago

I do not miss the agent-arranged, canned-response, obvious movie/book/TV show AMA's...

Victoria days were the best...

Maybe we can build something similar

[–] ilickfrogs@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This place is already doing what reddit did for me and Jerboa is very close to the 3rd party app I used. Fuck reddit and spez, hello Lemmy!

[–] ThaijsClan@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well said. I used Sync for Reddit and find Jerboa compares well.

[–] x4740N@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jerboa

Thankyou for making me aware of this app

Just to avoid scree time after reddit blackout, I had uninstalled other social media apps as well. But got suck into Lemmy right after that.

[–] Dick_Justice@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

oh I know... I'm so much more active here. It's just a nicer atmosphere for engagement.

[–] hiyaaaaa23@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m on kbin and yeah, this is my new home

[–] CylonBunny@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Got to love the Fediverse, eh!

[–] TheCuriosity@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I feel seen.

[–] Crysis@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm still trying to wrap around my mind about how this federated universe works. Like i know that I could access the content of this instance (is this the correct name?) from Mastodon and I did subcribe to a few lemmy instances from there but didn't manage to read any posts. Plus the thing that in Lemmy i use an account from another instance and I can read and post on everything but not by accessing it directly. It's kind of counfusing and I think this will be the greatest break to it's diffusion. Otherwise definitely better than Twitter/Reddit for sure.

[–] god 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Lmao I love the emphasis on "everywhere else" with Beehaw at the center as if they hadn't just defederated half of Lemmy from their instance including two of the ones displayed in the image (LW&SJW)

[–] _haha_oh_wow_ 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They did? What's the story there? Why'd they do it?

[–] god 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

https://beehaw.org/post/567170

they wanted to have a safe space without adding more admins & mods so they cut off 2 out of the 5 biggest instances and dozens of others as can be seen here: https://beehaw.org/instances

[–] _haha_oh_wow_ 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Bummer, I guess I can see why they'd do it with the open registration and floods of probable bots on the other instances, but it's still kinda sad to see. Thanks for the info!

[–] god 1 points 2 years ago

Pretty cool infographic. Thanks.

[–] Ashhwaghandaa@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I never thought of myself as addicted to social media, but I got more studying done in two days than I have in two months. It made me realize how much SM consumed my time.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_ 1 points 2 years ago

Am I the only one who goes onto sites like reddit and lemmy to learn stuff?

[–] archiotterpup@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Trying to fill the void has shown me just how large the void was in the first place.

[–] Thade780@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Still need to figure out things (for as much as Jerboa for Lemmy is nice, it can't hold a candle to Sync), but same here.

[–] phuntis@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

lj just announced he's starting work on sync for lemmy :)
