This makes me realize that Reddit development got stale, this should have been an updated feature years ago.

Reddit development got stale when, unfortunately and tragically, their best dev killed himself in 2013
I have been reading about him. He deserves a movie, and a good one.
let's talk to James Franco once he's done making the Shel Silverstein bio-pic I've been asking for for ten years.
They, like Twitter, had good reasons for not allowing it, such as the risk of users editing posts after the fact, and the risk of abusing that privilege to scam other users, so on.
But their development did get stale some years back, and they probably know it, given that Reddit started chasing trends and implementing mostly-unwanted features some probably when they started focusing on trying to keep users on the site, and adding things like image/video uploading (which probably did terrible things to their development costs).

Are comments marked in some way to show when edited like reddit was?

Like could I write a post/comment "how often do you call your parents" and after everyone comments, once a week, once a day, oh god never, etc,
Edit the post/comment to say "how often do you eat poop"
And then sit back and chuckle softly to myself? Or would it say *(edited)

I'm on lemmy.world and I can see the time and date your comment was posted and same for edited.
Kbin doesn't show it though, so not every software will show the edit tag.
EDIT: Or Kbin just hasn't implemented that yet, not sure.
Yeah, I have a kbin account and noticed the same thing. I keep going back and forth between the two. I understand why it's implemented, but I'm not sure I entirely like the idea of having every favorite being visible to the public. At least they're only visible on the specific comment/ post but not visible from the user profile.
When a post is edited (title or otherwise), a little pencil icon is shown to tell you it’s edited, just like comments.

On jerboa it has how long ago it was posted, then how long ago it was edited in the top right of the comment
Hopefully one happy side effect of this is that it won't become a cultural thing on the Fediverse to put a typo in your post title and then have a comment section full of people all calling attention to the typo instead of the actual question/topic of the post.
Although I'm curious about how they might address the "clickbait" issue of people having a massively upvoted/boosted post, and then changing the post to say something else entirely.
That seems like it might be a problem if people are allowed to edit titles.
'*Title edited' small text could be added maybe. And if title is edited after a day or week or month then specify that too.
Honestly one probably should have ability to edit titles after max two days pass or even one. I can't think of a good reason you would want to edit a title after a day or two
Editing titles much later can be useful for example when discussing news or findings that later get disproved, at which point one could edit the title to reflect that so that future readers don't risk going down the path of trusting it.
Tag with "Title edited" also include a button showing former title as an uncoverable element.
I don't think it's necessary or even good to have that kind of messages which are either very recent (ninja-edits) or have very few upvotes, engagement, etc, at least for a day or so. At least not a prominent message.
All the concerns, after all, are about swicharoos, and if noone has yet seen the post, is it really a swicharoo? We should rather incentivise people to edit bad titles to get rid of titlegore etc and "delete, repost" aka the reddit solution isn't exactly elegant either.

Is it really a problem tho? If it would happen then the only thing that sucks is that you just got pranked. There are no karma points here to sell. I have more faith in ppl here to not do such things too. But even if they did there wouldn't be a big deal. I think it is much more worth it having it then not having it. Like ruud (admin at lemmy.worls) change his titles from "updating the server" to "[all done] updating the server". Also I am a believer in creating rules if it becomes a problem, to give everyone a chance to be believed in.
It absolutely can become a problem in the areas of advertising, politics, propaganda, misinformation, and scams.
Once out of the spotlight of the immediate popular phase (say, a month or a year after the initial post) and the greater scrutiny that carries, imagine changing the title to something anti-vax, or painting a company in a better light (Nestle did nothing wrong!), or endorsing a fake research result (global warming is not man-made and just a natural cycle!), or just flat out putting in a web address to a phishing site since you know someone’s grandma will click on it.
Sure, but I could see it being used to promote scams and things, too. You get a popular post, and then change it to something else, pointing to a scam, and feign popular support for it.
I remember that being one of the reasons for why both Reddit and Twitter didn't really have post/title editing.
It's better to also have some known method of counteracting any potential issues ahead of time, so we're not blindsided by something like that when it does happen, especially when it's something that could happen now, rather than some far-fetched issue.
Ah I see, I guess I have missed this. I didn't think it was such a big problem. But I can see it happen on bigger platforms. Thanks for enlightening me. I guess I am still too naive for social media haha
You can also add your personal text in a text box when you create link posts, another thing you can't do in reddit.

I read the title of this thread as "YSK that you can edit TILES on Lemmy, unlike Reddit." I spent far longer than I should trying to figure out wtf tiles were. Yes, I'm dumb.

Kbin.social currently attributes every post like it was local. That's not intended and will probably be fixed soon.
Previously we could not federate due to cloudflare issues, now we're federating properly but the front end doesn't show the correct source of linked posts.
