Is using an animal that has to eat basically nonstop to support its body really the best way to make this point?

I’d also point out that many horse feeds contain animal products to supplement protein

A horse will absolutely nom down a passing rat or bird given the chance.

The question remains how well it gets digested.

Good shout. Horses can’t vomit either so. Double the reason they can’t do meat regularly.

Alright, but how do cows make protein, you're telling me grass can be turned into steak? People actually believe this stuff??

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I was gonna say, they aren’t just outside eating the grass off someone’s lawn once in a while. They are endlessly devouring specially made feeds

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

No, just no. Most horses are not fed grains of any type. They eat grass and hay. Grains aren't really great for them anyways. Performance horses and elderly horses will get supplemental style grains, but a horse needs to basically eat 24/7 to keep their guts properly working.

Why are the censors glowing?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Horses happily eat meat when given the opportunity. Young chickens have found this out the hard way.

Wait until this motherfucker learns about sauropods.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Enlighten me? I am today's lucky 1 in 10000!

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Sauropods are the giant long necked dinosaurs, some of which could grow up to 80 tonnes, and ate a purely plant diet.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

The human brain requires a relatively huge percentage of energy to work. Most plants aren't calorie dense enough to get the job done; vegetarianism is a modern luxury.

I'm pro vegan but this seems to make sense to me.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Veganism is a luxury afforded to us who have access to vast amounts of fresh produce all year.

Even 100 years ago I don’t think being vegan would have been possible year round, as it would be nearly impossible to get the variety of produce needed to sustain a person in the winter months.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

So many people have been indoctrinated that protein = meat and refuse to believe that plants have enough protein. I've just heard that argument so much, that if someone gave up meat where else would they get their protein? The carnist propaganda goes deep

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Sad that this is the level of miseducation we have in our society

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Oh yes, i know a lot of these people. "I need to eat meat for my protein intake."

You're overweight and work in an office, you really need these protes brother.

Look guys, not looking for a fight here, but maybe just don't tell the people who are already in somewhat of a war with vegans to go and eat literal grass 😅
