It is funnier knowing that Steve Dallas was Berke Breathed’s alter ego that he inserted into the strip to make fun of himself

Not trying to be an ass, genuinely curious, because all the quotes I can find say he was based off frat-boy lawyer who Breathed knew in college.
I think he said in the last book, in the little notes under some selected strips, that Steve Dallas was his alter ego.
OTOH this agrees with you and I think I was basing that just off that one-off statement and so maybe I am wrong

Hello fellow Bloom County fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.
Bloom County is an American comic strip by Berkeley Breathed which originally ran from December 8, 1980, until August 6, 1989. It examined events in politics and culture through the viewpoint of a fanciful small town in Middle America, where children often have adult personalities and vocabularies and where animals can talk.
