Hello y'all, I recently got a cheap uv-5r off of Amazon so I could use APRS in a off the grid location, however I'm encountering a large set of problems with the radio.

First off all, I already tried the 3 finger unlock, doesn't work. Second off, I can program channels into it with chirp, but the radio will only beep if you press ptt. Only channels 1-30 will transmit, however if you change any of it in chirp it seems to revert back to gmrs.

Thanks for any help in advance.

If you have another of the same unit, it's probably just defective.

There's also counterfeit issues to worry about if you can compare it to another.

I've done some looking around in other forums, and this seems to be a common issue.

By default, the minimum step size between freqs was too big for me to program my local repeater. Had to lower it in the settings before it was accessible.

Reduced the step size, still unable to transmit any aprs packet.

I programmed one entirely manually, have a go at manually programming that frequency to another channel. Otherwise you've probably got a hardware issue
