Didn't happen to me. I guess it's because I only installed it in a VM.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I think doing it on a physical host is probably more of an interesting experience. I did luks with mine which caused a couple issues but I was able to figure them out.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

How much luks did you use? I'm thinking of trying even encrypted boot with grub but I'm not sure if it will be too difficult or complicated

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I basically put /boot and /boot/efi in the same partition, and used everything else for the rest of the filesystem and encrypted that. Aside from that you just have to edit some config files to tell the system you’re using luks.

I was a hairy twink before linux 🥲

A smarter hairy twink 🫣

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Used to be a hairy twink. Still are. But used to be, too.

If you don't become a femboy from installing Linux, then you become a bear like I did.

Instructions unclear, hairBoy has entered the /

So, honest question. Where does the association with becoming trans or cross dressing come from when it comes to Linux? I always see the memes and appreciate the pictures but I'm ootl on this.

Edit- lot of interesting takes on my question. Thanks for the info everyone 💜

As a trans woman using Linux, imo it's using something beyond it's original design. Similar to how we 'hack' our bodies to go beyond our AGAB, a lot of us run Linux (on machines that come with windows) or hack consoles such as a 3ds we take machines with inferior software and make them better.

Or a may just be reaching and it's just that security concious and nerdy communities are also largely queer ¯_(ツ)__/¯

[–] [email protected] 14 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's natural as a queer person to seek to protect yourself, because the world is more dangerous for us.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Isn't there something also about expressing oneself in here? With the limited freedoms society gives our bodies and behaviours, hacking our hardware to get it to do as we please is a form of liberty, and of self-expression. With a healthy dose of show-them-the-middle-finger to everything oligarchic, capitalistic and conservative that dominates the world around us.

That, of course, with the desperately needed privacy on top.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah I can express myself like this without worrying about what people irl think of me.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This sounds a lot like how one of my friends describes it. She's a riot — she jokes that she came out as trans because as a chronic tech nerd, she reached a fork in the road where it was either "libertarian tech bro" or "anarchist cat girl".

Unrelated to that anecdote, as a queer cis woman, certainly a lot of the joy and catharsis I get from tinkering with tech feels like the same fulfillment I derive from queer community. I think there's a lot to be said for how a person's perspective influences how they approach problems. Like, as a scientist, there are definitely areas where I feel like being a queer, autistic woman affects how I approach a problem.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

As a Marxist cat (?) girl, the barricades will be stormed by people in thigh highs and cat ears.

E: took me a while but I finally found a photo I was thinking of lol

[–] [email protected] 20 points 7 months ago

There seems to be large overlap between queerness and nerdiness. Although that just replaces one question for another, and idk why it is what it is.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I think I've read once that niche communities tend to have notably higher rates of things like trans people. It might be that it's because these niche communities are more welcoming, so those people like LGBT+ who feel unwelcome in more mainstream places find a home there and bring their friends.

I don't remember the source and I'm half-remembering the point anyway, so make of it what you may. The context was actually speedrunning (like AGDQ).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

@LogicalDrivel @snowsynth i would say that it's related to Unix socks. You know, these long striped socks that a proud Unix user should use.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Not to mention Ultrakill on that side monitor :3

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

Haha I was wondering if anyone would notice!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 months ago

I should introduce my friends to Linux so I can turn them all into femboys.

[–] felykiosa 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You have beautiful legs🥰

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)
[–] XCraftMC 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

how do you shave them so clean? I’ve been trying for days and I cannot figure it out.

Bought myself a razor and some shaving cream, tried it but the razor just won’t cut anything.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

I honestly have no idea. It looks better than it is in the photo because of the lighting. I was just using a cheap Gillette razor and shaving cream, this is the first time I’ve done it actually. My only suggestion is leave the shaving cream on for a good couple minutes before shaving anything, and use some kind of hand cream after so your skin doesn’t get all dry. Also make sure your shaving in the opposite direction of the hair to get the razor as close to the base of the hair as you can.

[–] XCraftMC 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

alrighty, thanks for the tips!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

I hope it works for you!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago (3 children)

I installed Debain and now I'm Trans :3

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

Debian is for lesbians prick

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

@kittenzrulz123 @snowsynth me too, also I come as a non binary variant.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

I'm genderfluid and genderflux so I come with female, demigirl, agender, non-binary, and a bunch of other things I can't even comprehend.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I joke with my friend that’s non-binary that it’s basically “quantum gender” where your gender is basically in superposition lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

My gender is best described as yes, no, maybe, all of the above, none of the above, individually, and simultaneously.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

@kittenzrulz123 🫂 :Blobhaj_Flag_Nonbinary:

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Seems to happen a lot with Linux users, I’m not sure why.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

When I installed Linux I thought "I may be a Linux user but there's no way I'm Trans", that was a certified egg™ moment

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Right now I don’t identify as trans. But uhhhhhhhh well… you see the post.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You're silly and cute, close enough :3

If only I could become cute femboy by installing Arch. 🥺

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

You can do it! Just give it a shot. If you backup everything you don’t have anything to lose by trying it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Is there a big difference between linux distros? I plan to swap to Linux (still unsure of which one to use) but is Arch more fem with it's ui or interfaces? Or more so why has it been seemly mostly fem people use it? /gen

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

It’s mostly the package manager, but a lot of distros share the same package manager. Like Debian and Ubuntu both use APT. Arch and Manjaro both use pacman. Most distros you install a traditional way with a graphical installer, but arch you actually install and configure the components manually from the command line. I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners because it is pretty technical, but rather try something else, and come back to arch when you think you might be able to handle it. I think Linux mint is a great starter distro personally. Also you can change the desktop however you like on any system, so choose something that functionally works for you, and then you can mod it to be what you want.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

@snowsynth @wafflez I would add "Linux Mint Debian edition" . I recommend avoiding Ubuntu and derived distros. Canonical is trying hard to be a Microsoft wanabe. It's sad, because Kubuntu and Ubuntu were especially beginner friendly.

Also, have in mind that you can use different desktops. For beginners, I recommend to use KDE/Plasma desktop or Cinnamon desktop. Both have a very similar look&feel to classic Windows.
