Inactive mods? (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I moderate the /c/stopdrinking community. The person who created it didn't want to mod, and so I volunteered. Now the creator has gone inactive and hasn't been around for for 4 days.

I'd like to update the sidebar, etc, but only the creator seems to be able to do that.

What happens if he never comes back? If he can eventually be removed, what would be a reasonable amount of time to wait?

In the meantime, can an Admin change the sidebar text for me?

You'll have to ask a site admin like @[email protected]

How? Do I just message them?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

he should have just been pinged by that comment, but i'll do it from the world instance just in case

hey @ruud there's a community where the top mod has gone inactive and the next person wants to do some changes but can't. could you please help? cheers

In case Rudd sees this, I'd like the new sidebar to read:

"This is a place to motivate each other to control or stop drinking. We welcome anyone who wishes to join in by asking for advice, sharing our experiences and stories, or just encouraging someone who is trying to quit or cut down. Please post only when sober; you’re welcome to read in the meanwhile."

What's there isn't very helpful.

Now the creator has gone inactive and hasn't been around for for 4 days.

Question from someone who might want to start a couple of magazines/communities: Is being away for four days long enough to be considered inactive?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

No, it shouldn't be, many people have commitments and as long as there is a mod active then the community is being covered.

This is the second post I've seen on the matter today and it's disappointing that we are already seeing people trying to assure they are the King of their little domain.

I was tired of these politics in Reddit and I'm not eager to continue seeing it here.

I just want someone to add a proper description. I'm sorry if that's me trying to become a king of some little domain.

People really ascribe the worst to things sometimes.

This Reddit sub takeover shit needs to stay in Reddit. I hope @[email protected] categorically refuses these demands, we don't want Reddit toxicity here.

I mean you got snoo in your name, bud, you kinda brought it with you.

There has to exist a process by which new mods can take ownership of abandoned communities. That’s not Reddit toxicity, it’s day to day business.

I mean you got snoo in your name, bud, you kinda brought it with you.

Was this necessary?

There has to exist a process by which new mods can take ownership of abandoned communities

By which decree?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Idk, was it necessary to make your name a reference to reddit? My fuckin' name is assbutt, dude, the bar isn't very high here. It's pretty weird to call yourself 'snoo' while you go around decrying the evils of reddit.

By which decree?

Come on, are you fuckin' serious right now? If you create 'SnooFuckersAnonymous' then abandon it next week, what the hell are the admins supposed to do with it? According to you, they have to leave it there, empty and unused, forever, instead of letting someone make something out of it. That is asinine beyond words.

For someone who loves reddit enough to adopt the name of their mascot, you sure don't seem to understand how it worked. You're acting as if subreddit requests were exclusively hostile takeovers. Part of requesting a sub was proving that you had made every attempt to contact the existing mods.

Transferring ownership to new mods is basic maintenance in a place like this. Nobody is suggesting we steal communities from their owners and hand them out to trolls.

Sending an email to [email protected] creates a ticket. Ruud got back to me slightly after 24 hours.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've been sober since January 2nd and the creator asked for mods because he made it when he wasn't sober and I messaged him I'd be a mod but he never replied. I was active on the subreddit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I sent a message to the mod because spacebar shows up as a bot on my browser. I think we need Ruud’s help.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

Seems like the creator went drinking

[–] Trekman10 4 points 2 years ago

Reach out to the Admins of the instance the community is located on?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Good question , hopefully someone will know cos I ain't got clue

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Username says you are a bot.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My bot checkbox is unchecked. Am I still a bot?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I don't see it. Was it checked before ?

[–] goat -2 points 2 years ago

You can always make the same community on a different instance.
