Isekai Tensei: Recruited to Another World Volume 6 - In the biggest twist of the century the rescued illegal elf slaves did not fall in love with MC and did not join the harem. It’s mind-boggling. I did not think they could do something like that. - 6/10

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 5 Avatar of a Goddess Volume 9 - Another banger of a volume! Some notes I took while reading it:

  1. the battle scenes are insanely cleverly done. By limiting the view of Rosemyne (and thus limiting the reader's view as well) the fighting could be described on a close-up level that conveys the horror and confusion perfectly without falling into the trap of trying to explain large-scale battles from an outside observer perspective. It’s like the difference between the Battle of Bastards and the final battle in GoT.
  2. Shellshocked Myne was so heart-wrenching that it actually made me shed tears as well. I honestly don’t remember when a book managed to do that the last time.
  3. Miya Kazuki did some other clever things in this volume that are atypical for a light novel. For example, putting a major event only in the epilogue chapter while having it only being something told to Myne during the main book. That helped the pacing and showed that the world doesn't stop revolving when the main character isn't looking. I love that soo much.

And now my wait begins (for my library is vast and full of backlog) <- my last SoIaF reference, I promise. - 11/10

Just one this week, was reading some other random stuff for a lot of it.

I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I'll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time, Vol. 2: The relatability of this series is genuinely concerning. I appreciate that the main characters are actually trying to grow and change in response to the events of volume 1, which should be something obvious but I guess I don't see very consistently in light novels.

At first I was going to say this wasn't as strong as volume 1, but as I think about it there are alot of little nuances that hang with me a bit. Little character moments that in most books would be normal, or even clichés, but here they indicate different frustrations of work life. Have you ever been praised for working hard and well at work and thought "I don't need praise, I need help?" Have you ever tried to improve at something to cover someone who's struggling, but you need to go back to them anyways because you can't get good enough fast enough? Hell, I'm currently trying to get my work in order to avoid overtime popping up mid-summer like the last couple of years, which is basically Alina for the first half of the book.

It's not exactly a brilliant series, it's primarily goofy fun, but it actually seems to reflect and understand the working life in a way that the generic died-from-overwork series don't.

I finished Konosuba Vol. 4 today (hot springs arc). I was really surprised toward the end of the volume as I didn't realize how much anime original content was added to the final confrontation. Overall, I am still really enjoying slowly working my way through the series. Between reading this series and the new season airing this coming season, I will have plenty of Konosuba in my life for the next couple months.

So I’m a spider so what? - Vol 06 & 07

I decided to go back and read the first Light Novel series I read. I decided to watch the Anime to cover the first 5 volumes then continue reading from the 6th.

Bookworm - Part 5 - Vol 09

Another great Volume, can’t wait for the next.

Quiz

Who is being mentioned? (White - Spider or Myne - Bookworm)

She puts herself first and will gladly wreak destruction if it means getting what she wants.

That’s precisely what concerns me so much about that girl.

I fear that drive of hers will someday bring about a serious situation.

Does White have drive? It's been years since I read that series but I remember her being apathetic.

I thinks it’s mainly the drive to do what she wants (live with pride?).

But she seems to mainly just go with whatever is happening.
