For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

X-crements

Edit: X-cretions?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Pox = post + X.

Damn, nailed it

He renamed the site Eggs, so call them eggs. I really don’t see how this is supposed to get rid of the bird theme though.

X is what he first called PayPal, I wonder if this is just some sad fantasy for Musk.

[–] Zeppo 26 points 1 year ago

He had a company/brand called X which did the same thing as PayPal and merged with Confinity, who made PayPal. He wanted to use the X name for PayPal, but everyone else at the company nixed it.

Dude's a cringey edgelord I'm surprised all of his don't have an x in their names

SpaceX, Model X, X.com (pre PayPal), and even named his son X. Dude's got a weird obsession with making X work.

Promotes the name change by linking to something that calls it Twitter. Big brain time from Musk yet again.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I thought it was a logo change not name change.

Wouldn’t you want to forward Twitter.com to X.com and not the other way around?? It’s not possible someone with this much wealth is this dumb.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well clearly you're wrong about that.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I thought Elon stepped down from Twitter and hired a new CEO? What's he still doing there?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

He stepped down as CEO but is still president, CTO and anything else he feels like being while he can scapegoat his female CEO for anything he wants.

So, yes official. Don't message your X

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

early user testing of the new service reports are that the iconic tweet sound will be replaced by an ai-generated voice recording of deceased rapper DMX’s iconic canine-esque barking even though DMX’s estate has not given permission nor will they receive any compensation.

when sending messages, it will make a sound of “x gonna give it to ya”. again, no compensation to be had to the DMX estate, nor the ruff ryders.

It’s a symbol to his fan base. Which is wild that that’s the head space he’s in. Still trying to be that cool kid amongst his rabble of friends.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It’s not even “new” he was trying to get PayPal called X and everyone squashed it (thankfully), so even there, he’s been waiting like 25y to get X on something lol

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

It’s still not dead?! Let’s try something else!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Twats, we should call him, after the owner

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Im fucking sure Elon pretty much drew the logo himself and gets a wild boner when he thinks how fucking smart he is.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Lol .. what an idiot.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Probably something that makes it even harder and more confusing to understand in context, so I'm gonna say he calls them "texts"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

He was a big DMX fan

I can't imagine how much the x.com domain costed him. Like I know most three or four letter domains trade hands for six figures sometimes since there's so few

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-letter_second-level_domain

Like apparently single letter domains are reserved so idk how he got one

Edit: found out. He bought it from PayPal after they stopped using it for their brand years ago. $6.8 million dollars for a domain.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He wanted PayPal to be called X so I’m wondering if he didn’t have this domain the whole time.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

The wiki article says as much

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Money. If something is “reserved” or even “illegal” you just need to pay more

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Gonna give it to you's?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Paid for by the Ad Concil for Rex's
