There's a good chance your grocery store garlic was grown in Central California, it might even have a label, so aim for that kind of "climate". Once you're past the present hellish extremes, you might move the pot outdoors, starting with a shady spot and moving into partial sun, even full sun as weather warrants, rather than committing to a permanent place right away.
