I'm curious, how many people are aware of these sounds. I have designed, etched, and built my own switching power supplies along with winding my own transformers. I am aware of the source of the noise. So, does anyone else hear these high frequency sounds regularly?

My friends and I used to drive out to an area of the desert, away from people and the general noise of civilization. However, there were large power transmission lines going through the area and we could listen to them crackle in the night as we watched the stars. Just a nice way to relax and get away from it all.

I have like 2 USB chargers that are really loud.

  • Belkin travel surge protector
  • 5-port USB hub
  • wireless charger

Thankfully none else!

Not too often, but can any of you guys see LEDs flicker?

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Worked on a building site with LED work lamps and couldn't work out why I got a sharp, blinding headache at about 2pm every day

Changed them for halogen ones, problem gone

Couldn't see a flickering, but could kinda sense it

Is this all leds or just some? Led lights / led screens?

I'm genuinely curious. I think I'm more sensitive to flickering lights than most (I see a flickering light/screen where others see none), but my experience with flickering lights has vastly improved since led lights became standard and high fps ips screens became basically the standard in office settings.

What led lights I still see flicker: some laptop screens, I suspect a faulty psu. And I've seen led halogen bulb replacements have issues.

What I used to see flicker: every freaking tube pc screen. It was maddening, computer rooms especially.

Edit: led lights in halogen fixtures is apparently a known problem: https://www.ledkia.com/blog/uk/how-to-fix-a-flickering-led-bulb/

I think it has to do with the frequency they operate at (when dimmed?) . 50/60 Hz is obvious, but some with a higher frequency are still recognizable.

Any time there is motion I get a strobe light effect. Either when looking at something that's moving or moving my eyes to look at something. It's like when you wave your hand in front of you when looking at an old CRT TV.

I hear some of them. There's a real cheap one my parents got with a security camera thats real loud to me, but they don't hear it.

I did when I was younger but I don't hear it since I hit around 30

Yes, but a bit less as I've aged probably because the higher frequency hearing we have starts to diminish the older we get.

Since I got older this got better. One benefit I guess?
