BRASILIA, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Brazil's federal police on Thursday sought to confiscate former President Jair Bolsonaro's passport and arrest some of his closest aides, sources said, as part of an investigation into an alleged coup attempt after he lost the 2022 election.

The operation reflects a tightening net around Bolsonaro, his family and some of his most powerful allies for actions before and after his unsuccessful reelection effort. The confiscation of his passport will be especially worrying for the former president, a far-right firebrand who cast himself as a Brazilian version of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Too bad justice can't be this swift in the US

Yeah does this mean Brazil is less corrupt than the US?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

Always has been. corruption is greater where the power is greater and so there is bigger opportunities. Brazil has much more petty corruption the USA has built in corruption, that is deemed legal.

Seriously... it's been almost a year that Bolsonaro has been impeded from participating in any elections for the next 8 years.

Shit, only eight years? I thought it was in perpetuity. Better than nothing I guess, now we need to get rid of Tarcísio.

That much time is political death though. He’ll be thoroughly forgotten except the bad parts by then.

It’s pretty swift if you’re black.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 6 months ago

Was the emu OK?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago

No, but thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Did he go back to Brazil? I know right after the coup attempt he was in Miami for a bit.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago

He was there during the coup attempt actually, he left days before he finished his term. He eventually came back a few months into 2023.
