TikTok lost 1/3 of total available music because one company owns all of it. That is fucked.

Not that I love or hate tiktok or UMG but these are the reasons why pirating is growing in popularity again. Regular people don't really care how many millions or billions corporations get to divide among themselves, all people want is a bit of freedom to get what they want. And what people want can be had for not that much money or effort either, it's just that a handful of greedy companies want to control it all and balance all content between how much money they can make and how much people are willing to pay for it. Right now the scales are unbalanced and more and more people can't afford most of this content, so pirating for many becomes a more acceptable option.
In this particular case it’s even stupider. The average tiktok is short enough that it wouldn’t even be worth claiming any music used, and if nothing else would likely lead the average consumer on that platform to seek out the song in question via other means (legitimate or otherwise). Either way it’s free advertising for them. This seems like purely a flex from UMG.
So can we expect a Napster-TikTok soon?
It’s fucking awful. I hate universal. And they claim it was “for the artist” just fuck off.
Okay...
