(Note: All NTSC equipment) I have a Yamaha RX-V657 (2005) supporting external speakers for a Sony Bravia XBR-75X850D (2016). My 7yo daughter has started to develop an interest in gaming, and I had pulled out my consoles, and she was trying out different games (She played SNES Link to the Past for five hours this weekend). I was connecting and disconnecting each console via one of the composite video inputs on the television. After she went to bed, I took some time to pull component video cables out of storage, and I hooked up the receiver component video output to the television component input. I ensured the receiver up-conversion feature (denoted in the manual as “Video Conversion” in this case) to have a console composite video sent to the television via component video signals. The result was an intermittent blinking picture. The monitor would remain on a black screen five a number of seconds, then for one brief frame, the picture would appear. I attempted to go through the television menu looking for settings related to analog signals but the menu itself became unusably slow while the SNES was playing. I figure either the receiver video conversion routine is faulty or the television component filter is faulty. I will test the television using my Xbox (2001) with component cables. Does anyone have experience with up-conversion or has experience with obtuse television settings related to analog inputs? Thank you.
