I'm in the process of renovating a house and at the wiring for speakers stage. Thinking about where to put the subwoofer, it occurred to me to cut a hole in the floor (prior to the hardwood install) and mount a subwoofer underneath where my couch would be (accessible in the basement). I'd finish off the hole with a wood grill like I'm using for the in floor ac vents.

Would I even need a box around the driver or could I just mount between the floor joists? Anyone see an issue with this? Would it work?
