I just got a new 5.1 system and have my kiddos that sleep directly above the living room. During the day, the difference in volume between the dialogue and the big explosions aren't a big deal, but at night they are just too loud when I want to hear the dialogue clearly.
I currently have a Sony AVR receiver with the option to compress the dynamic range (ON or OFF), but I find even having this on does not do enough to reduce the loud explosions at night. I am looking into getting a Denon receiver that has Audyssey Dynamic Volume that can be set to Low, Medium or High. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using these different level settings. How much does High actually compress the sound vs Medium or Low?
