I’m trying to bid a government job, and the terms in their RFP is that the job must be done within 30 days of the bid being awarded.

Problem is, the part is special order only. After dozens of calls I haven’t found it squirreled away in any warehouses and the manufacturer is providing a 12 week+ lead time.

Even if I tried to build a work-around, the connections on this thing are very proprietary and are meant to mate with a specific connector they’re using.

What’s the best way to communicate the long lead time on the bid? Can I ask for payment up front? The parts are ~$50k and I’d have to finance that and eat interest for the 12-16 weeks while I wait to be able to do the installation.

Any and all advice appreciated.
