If only we could buy their stuff.

I think I read that the US is considering tariffs or something to basically raise the cost of these cars for US consumers.

[–] schizoidman@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is already an effective 27.5% tariffs on cars made in China. They are still considering to raise it higher.

Well I do t live in the US anymore and there are Chinese cars where I live. Additionally electric cars are just starting to hit the roads here, so hopefully, when my wife and o get a car, we can get an electric one.

Also not American but yeah.

Free market. But not really. Govt will meddle when it suits

US I assume? We do get their buses and Semis. Have for years. So maybe we'll get cars too? I won't hold my breath though. I think we'll count ourselves lucky if we get Nissans made in China once that plant opens.

I don't wanna be that guy, but BYD are not only garbage tofu cars, they are also HEAVILY subsidized by the CCP in an effort to dump on the competition.

You don't understand the amount of dumping they are doing. The CCP is intentionally putting the competition out of business so one day they can own the market. They already did this with solar panels.

They might be many things, but garbage is definitely not one of them. I can tell you are from the US and haven't seen any Chinese cars up close. They make the US cars look ancient!

[–] jaschen@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 year ago

I'm not from the US. I'm in Taiwan and China. They are garbage cars. Teslas are also garbage cars.

You can easily smell their fragile masculinity by the use of the term "tofu" as an insult.

teen libtards who likes to suck Elon Musk's balls will spread a lot of hate on X after this news

Good. Let's see if Tesla buckles or spins out Musk.
