~~how can i know the de/federation status of the instance? IIRC the instance subscribed to an auto-defederation program to auto exclude bot instances and such. is there a way to distinguish these from the manual defederations? like exploding heads, or hexbear (i thought we were defederated from them but i've just seen the old posts from their users here on /c/main)~~

~~i'm asking just to have a way of knowing wich parts of the fediverse are hidden from view, since it's not obvious to me~~

also would like to know if there is a plan on the instance about threads? i've scoured The Agora but found nothing. wouldn't mind creating a discussion there

EDIT: just found the answer to my first question on another post: https://sh.itjust.works/instances

The list is available by clicking the 'Instances' link at the bottom.
https://sh.itjust.works/instances In there, there's a blocked section.

But that page doesn't tell you much by itself.

You can also check https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/sh.itjust.works

It's gonna be the same list but it can include a reason and a bit more info.
I think it's easier to understand the format on fediseer than just looking at a list of domain names.

Defederation just breaks further updates and bans their communities, it doesn't technically remove the existing content from before defederation.

I've actually been purging some of the CSAM communities recently from instances that were blocked, but were technically still not 100% deleted on the server.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns or anything.

thanks a lot for the second link!

No problem.
Ideally speaking, we'd rather not defederate too much, but instances dedicated to child porn, spam, and unmoderated hate don't leave much of a choice.

Note that these lists don't necessarily include instances that defederated us.
(Beehaw is one, I'm sure there are others)

"Instances" at the bottom of the page will take you to a list of, I believe, federated instances, and at the very bottom, blocked instances.

i browse lemmy through an android client so i hadn't found that 'instances' link, but someone mentioned it in a recent post that i saw just after posting this. thank you anyway

As for threads, that's a good question.
Personally, I'd rather not have Facebooklite in my lemmy feed, but I don't represent all users (nor even all admins for that matter).
Ultimately, TheDude has final say on anything, but I think this would be worth a discussion in the agora.

i'm with you on that. i'm gonna open the discussion in the agora
