It's everywhere. From images, to videos, to Tiktoks, to adverts ... I'm over saturated with opinions, replays, player ratings, hyperbole and the like.

There's only so much you can take.

Example 1. The Newcastle goal vervus Arsenal. Never ending discussions on the decision. The hyperbolic nature of the punditry. The uneven opinions of the same people.

Example 2. Handball against Newcastle. Hundreds of videos all moaning, complaining over and over again. The same pundits complaining and restarting their opinion.

And now the new one - the ref not giving Man City an advantage in the Tottenham game. It starts all over again. The videos, the complaining, the shouting Tiktoks...

I just don't care anymore.

Rational discussions are gone, replaced with hyperbole and drama.

It's too much. I can't watch any football related content anymore.

The only thing to do is to shut it all out but the commentary is just as bad.

It's also constantly primary school level discussion.

"Who is better, Ronaldo or Messi?"

"Can Haaland/Mbappe/Bellingham get better than Messi?"

"Is this guy overrated?"

Planet has 8B people, every single one of them is a football fan or knows a football fan. They aren't watching Real Madrid or Man City playing each week, many of them are watching a local team nobody's heard of. Many of them volunteer to hang around some no-name club every week to let the kids have some fun.

But no, we need more and more content about the absolute top.

I understand the train of thought, there was a certain innocence to football in the pre-internet era, like you'd turn the radio on and there would be shock news of Andy Cole joining Man United etc. nowadays nearly all transfers are leaked days in advance. Legendary goals would just be, well, legends rather than something you could just watch instantly on a mini computer pulled from pocket.

But of course back then I craved the access to stats etc we have now. Digging out newspaper cuttings or old VHS tapes was a right faff compared to the on demand info we have now.

Overall I think it's better to have the wall to wall coverage and choose to ignore it, rather than not have it at all.

I'm not complaing about the access to football. I love all that.

It's the analysis after analysis of the same things over and over again, with no balance.

For example, the foul that the referee gave to City yesterday at the end of the game. The ref probably thought the ball over the top was to heavy and the advantage was wasted so bought it back. That's it. Thats all that happened. He made the wrong call? Maybe? But it doesn't deserve the amount of hyperbole now that exists around it. It's tiring.

I think it's just a natural evolution, more money more hype more tech, the equilibrium is going to end up being highly analytical. The TV networks have panels of expensive pundits and often run on for over half an hour beyond FT, so they will feast on whatever the controversy of the day is. Once they've covered the facts (replays of goals etc), they need something else to fill the time.

Watch games on mute then, heck quit PL, start supporting Championship or National league, or switch to a different league. Above all, if u hate discussion, dont bring yourself to places where there will be discussion.

Like others have said. Reduce the social media content, and just enjoy the football. I've started muting all the "banter" pages on my feeds and the hysterical Talksport posts. Much happier

Example 1 was ridiculous- I’ll grant you that, it’s still going on a month later

I have seen that much about the Newcastle handball - there was a lot of (justifiable) outrage the next day but after that I haven’t seen much. And I watch all the Newcastle channels - we’ve moved on

Haven’t seen anything much about the City “advantage”, again even though I understand why they would be seriously pissed off

Basically, I think you’re watching too much social media (shrug)

Like other people have said, you have to be more picky with what you consume content wise. Find out what you actually enjoy. Personally, I enjoy certain podcasts that give off friends vibes and I enjoy some of Sky's MNF-type coverage. So I ignore almost everything else. This sub, twitter, a lot of it takes itself way too seriously. Look at how many people get downvoted on this subreddit when you try and give an opinion. Just literally remove all care from places like this and twitter and your enjoyment of the sport will be found again.

I watch most of big games , but I rarely read or watch anything related to football, I have absolutely zero interest in following players on social media or knowing about their life outside the pitch.

During transfer window I try to read/watch more to see who is coming, but that is it, maybe you should try to disconnect a bit from football outside the match day?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Dude just turn the TV off.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I like watching James Allcott - insightful analysis and never too hyperbolic.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I felt the same a few years ago. Nowadays, I don't watch the pre-match build up or the post-match 'analysis'. (exception being West Ham's European matches where the Cole bros were co-presenting)

Just watching the match is satisfying enough for me, without all of the other bullshit and meaningless drivel.

Follow less people

Just watch the games and stay off social media.

Var has killed it for me

Remember that the pundits are there purely to draw attention. It's why you get ex players like Paul Merson and Steve Nicol wittering on about nonsense. They are being paid to have a bad take because bad takes get social media clicks.

And the more it is done the more others do it. I understand why you're tired.

I've been following football for over 20 years. I've been an Arsenal fan since I Titi was in Juventus. Hell, there's a pitch on a 2 minute walk from where I live (albeit a Macedonian regional league team plays there).

Maybe it's me, but I don't recall folks ever being too big on rational discussions when it came to football. There's always going to be drama when there's passion involved. There's always going to be smack talking, and pundits talking out of their ass or hilariously narrate like they're fucking Shakespeare.

You spend too long on social media

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

All the media noise about football makes it seem like the most important thing in the world. The smug self importance of people like gary neville and simon jordan doesn’t help matters. In the grand scheme of things football is not important. When it comes down to it it is just a game
