I am thinking about getting a pc set up with a 4080 and one of the two processors. Which one would be better for gaming purposes?

Intel Core i9-13900F or Intel Core i7-14700KF.

Not that it matters that much but the PC will also have 32 Gb of ram and a 1 tb ssd.

For gaming, go for a R7 7800X3D. Not only is it gonna give you both more average and 1% low FPS, it does that consuming up to +100W less.

My 14700kf peaks at 230W for cinebench 2023, gaming it I don’t really above 70w (non esports titles admittedly). Is the power draw that high?

Yeah, just check the tests, HUB includes per application/game power consumption which is nice as most reviewers only give power consumption on stress tests. The power efficiency is pretty poor rn.

if we wanted frame dips we would be on the amd reddits. thanks but no thanks

For high FPS Gaming: 7800x3D

Intel 14700KF will be much more suitable. Not only it's unlocked but support for Intel APO for 14th gen which is interesting to see good fps games for few games it's currently supported.

I wouldn’t get a 4080, the card is still so horrendously overpriced that if you’re in the market for one you might as well just get a 4090 and get actual flagship performance. You can even pair it with, like, a Ryzen 5 7600 or i5-13600K, because gaming really still doesn’t scale noticeably above the i5/R5 tier, and at that point it’s only, like, 300 bucks more overall.

Do you think the ASUS Dual RTX 4070 OC Edition for $589.99 is overpriced? Is the 4070 OC worth getting?

The 4070 is comparatively the best value 40 series card, but 3080 performance for $599 three years later is still pretty lackluster. I think the 7800 XT is a much better buy, albeit I’m not even sure I’d call that card good, and it’s the best one of this generation by a considerable margin.

Cool, thank you for your response!

That being said, it does depend on your location a little bit (in particular, if you’re in Europe and dealing with high energy prices, the 4070 might be a better choice for the considerably better efficiency.

Why this comment is downvoted is beyond me, it’s very accurate as far as GPU goes , the cpu recommendations however I would not follow.

The 4090 has never been more expensive lmao. Goes for almost $2000 on most store websites ☠️ The 4080 is the better option rn

The 13900F has an 8/16 performance + 16 efficiency cores. It'll boost around 5.6GHz but has memory overclocking locked.

14700KF has 8/16 performance + 12 efficiency cores. It'll boost around 5.6GHz but memory overclock is unlocked or rather voltages are giving you more flexibility and slight better performance from ram alone.

They're both F series so no iGPU

Unless you need +4 ecores for mulithread apps and production, I would go with the 14700KF and you can overclock it later if you want.

The 13900f only has locked core multipliers you can still use XMP on non-k CPUs

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Don't get a locked CPU

Also you don't need the extra cores for gaming

Get the 14700KF or better yet a 13700KF if it's significantly cheaper than the 14700KF

14700kf not even a debate

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Get the cheapest one if you meant to say 13900KF. 14700KF otherwise.
