Perhaps more art than engineering, I still love Theo Jansen's Strandbeests. Have any of you tried making one?

I know someone who made a crawling machine with I think twelve legs using this linkage and a wheelchair motor. One problem was the steps had very little clearance. Another issue was there is a point in the rotation that was suddenly much higher torque on all of the parts. I don't remember the details. Very cool looking movement, though, amazing to see it in action.
