Ok, I thought "erupt" was melodramatic, but the horror is real:

Brand underwent surgery in July 2011 to try to remove the rest of the filter in her IVC, but the surgeons failed to collect the remnants after several attempts.

I can't get over "doesn't" instead of hasn't

What is it with all this regulation? I'll be so happy when people are free to make their own choices based on myth and legend

I think the incredible shrinking Rolodex of politicians in general is the reason for many such gaps.

We called it caltrops :) It's also called puncture vine. It was a nuisance in Arizona, but I didn't bike a whole lot, so I mainly remember the sound when a bunch of them are stuck in your car tires.

This is what caltrops means to me

Dried seed pods absolutely get stuck in your tires, and will pop bike tires.

Adding to this, beware of progressive lenses. Get dedicated readers if you need them for the distance of your screen so you don't have to tilt your head even a little.

Thank you for this. I have been casually interested in Buddhism for a long time, but often annoyed by tendencies in the readings to still chase after some sort of God's grace, or a new state of being, or any other end game that denies the importance of what you and the rest of reality are actually experiencing. Nevertheless, even a very light study as I have done has been useful to me as a counter to many deeply assumed concepts and gives a way to explain other ways of seeing. I think just like any philosophy, the parts that can be construed or misconstrued to support the status quo within yourself or your community (which I include desire for specialness, desire to look away from pain) are going to be the most attractive and popular parts.

When I read this,

Stephen Batchelor eloquently describes his practice as a method for confronting-rather than transcending- the often painful mystery of life. But Batchelor seems to have arrived at what he calls an "agnostic" perspective in spite of his Buddhist training-not because of it.

I think you can't say it is in spite of the training if he feels it's through the training he got there. But I agree, it's not a place a lot of Buddhist practitioners seem to be aiming at.

To be fair, the Republicans did all these same things and won all three branches, so...

I think op is right. A new law that says you have to own real estate to vote would have been unconstitutional before and is not now.

Sounds like they would just have banned them all at once

TitleAcross the Universe

My recent experience is no -- the first backup went just fine, but all subsequent attempts to add to it have failed, giving various errors in the logs, including mounting problems, timeout during the initial write test, bad database, etc. I did rename the drive between backups, maybe that was bad? The log shows Time Machine using the new name and finding the drive just fine.

Googling this I see that people have these same problems with external hard drives, though, so I'm wondering if anyone has been successful using a thumb drive and if there's any trick to it.

Usually the option is there, but sometimes only block user is available.

Thanks.
