What's the idea behind this meme? That Russia is against tap-water or that Russia is a third-world shithole?

Because if the later, it reeks of western-white-colonialist supremacy. Blue countries have better infrastructure because they are colonial powers.

Oh and I absolutely drank water in Bulgaria. This is factually false.

Meanwhile, placing the US in the "drinkable country" where this happens is laughable:

No one would shit on Russia if they didn't constantly bomb the shit out of their neighbours and commit genocide as a part of their official strategy.

[–] [email protected] -5 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Yeah because the first world notoriously doesn't do that /s

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Well not neighbors. We go all the way to the other side of the planet to do it.

/s?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Cuba would like to have a word.

"US does it so it's cool for Russia too"

This logic astounds me. It's possible to be against both, and still recognize that Russia acting in a way that is constantly and actively pursuing war.

Russian leadership (fascists) is acting in a way that is constantly and actively pursuing war*

If Russia is not a democracy, then people cannot be held responsible for the action of their government. No more then in Dresden or Hiroshima. Especially when Westerners (us, who supposedly, them, pick our leaders) are not held responsible for the atrocities committed by their government. Where are the sanctions for the Iraqi war?

Honestly, it looks like they are preparing the average joe's mind for carpet bombing. Jingoism on all side.

If Russia is not a democracy, then people cannot be held responsible for the action of their government

Russia is just as much a democracy as the US. In the US, the electoral college picks the leaders, not the voting body. The electoral college has no legal obligation to follow the popular vote.

And besides that, Russia really wants to be able to say it's a democracy. Ask the government there, they will tell you they're a democracy. Just like the US.

Trying to insinuate that the American people are responsible for the actions of their government but the Russian people are not is pretty close to Russia apologist. Either the average Russian is responsible for changing their country or the average American is not. You don't get both.

Where are the Iraq War sanctions?

Again, it's possible to say that what the US did was wrong and still understand that what Russia is doing is also wrong. Bringing the "whatabout" argument at this point is deliberate deflection if you understand that you're arguing with someone who agrees with you.

Either the average Russian is responsible for changing their country or the average American is not. You don’t get both.

Yes, exactly, none of them are.

Again, it’s possible to say that what the US did was wrong and still understand that what Russia is doing is also wrong.

What the Russian government is doing is wrong, absolutely. It's not a reason to fall into jingoism and stupid stereotypes.

Bringing the “whatabout” argument at this point is deliberate deflection if you understand that you’re arguing with someone who agrees with you.

But the map is literally placing France and the US in "the good guys". Whataboutism is when you bring out things out of the blue that aren't being disgusted already.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

Ok, and?

The US pulled out of its wars. They may not be the good guy on the world stage in a cumulative sense, but their leaders pulled out of their wars and aren't picking any fights. Despite what you might think, wars aren't popular in the US either.

Russia is actively being the bad guy right now.

Whataboutism is when you bring out things out of the blue that aren't being disgusted already.

Nobody said anything about Iraq. You sort of brought that up out of nowhere, as if to say what about when it was different?

In any case, if all of this is about a meme labeling some countries good and some countries bad, a meme that isn't even trying to be accurate on either front, maybe you should ask yourself why you care so much that you're starting fires about how the west is just as bad?

You don't think the average person on lemmy hears that from the lurking tankies every single day? You're pretty much preaching to the choir here.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

US is currently actively supporting Israel in the destruction and leveling of Palestine. They are the bad guy right now.

But speaking out against the biggest economy in the world is suicidal, so surprise surprise - barely anyone does.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I don't disagree with you that the US is not a good guy on the world stage. However, the Israel-Palestine war is politically complex and tensions have been mounting for decades. Israel hold the cards for ending that, not the US.

The fact that US taxpayers are funding Israel is bad. But saying that compares to Russia actively invading Ukraine for 2+ years is just dishonest. Russia can stop whenever they want and Putin has stated he believes that land to be his right.

In this situation, Russia is more like Israel. Not the US.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's not politically complex. One side have more UN condemnation than freaking North Korea.

Russia can stop whenever they want and Putin has stated he believes that land to be his right.

So did Netanyahu.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Did you just gloss over the point?

Which wasn't that what Israel is in the right, or that the US is blameless.

It's that Russia is like Israel.

So did Netanyahu

Yeah. That's sort of exactly what I said, thanks

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Then we agree. Russia and Israel are bad and the west is bad for supporting the later while buying oil from the Saudi and their hamas-supporting muslims brotherhood..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Sure, then we also agree.

That comparing the US in this issue directly to Israel and Russia is dishonest, as Russia and Israel are direct aggressors with boots on the ground and the power to stop their respective wars.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

This time. It doesn't allow you to make fascist meme about how the poorer side of the world is backward and uneducated (which is the subtext of the meme).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, it's not wrong to say that Russia considers most of the developed world unfriendly. Which is the actual text of this meme, however misinformed the tap water part might be.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Which implies that being "developed" (code for rich) makes you morally right. Which is not the case, as illustrated by the wonderful story of the Iraqi, afghan, Malian wars among other. Where are the sanction for those?

This is basically mocking the poors for the sake of jingoism.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

All of that was derived by you.

"Developed" doesn't have to mean "morally right" for the statement "Russia considers most of the developed world unfriendly" to be true.

Yeah, we get it. You are pissing yourself to make sure everyone knows that the west is bad too. Pretty much anyone with a username remotely like yours hammers that on this platform constantly.

Sometimes a meme is just a meme, my friend.

Anyway, I'm not willing to continue this argument every night during the daylight hours of the country you're obviously in and simping for, so I'm going to go.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 6 months ago

Ah yes, I'm a russian shill. Long live putin and mao and pol pot or something /s

Seriously though, i'm just a guy. The governement of russia is ofc doing shitty thing. It just sucks to shit on people who have nothing to do with politics or whatever.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Yeah sorry, it tickles me to see a meme making fun of non-white countries for being unevolved. Sounds like a white f-word to me ;)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I shit plenty on the US for that too.

But Russia is directly affecting the sphere of influence my country has, so shitting on them is a lot more prudent.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Love how you're getting downvoted for calling out a fascist meme, and people say this platform is "leftist". 🙄

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Liberals always have been pro-war. It's good for business.

[–] themelm 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Canada should have an asterisc for all the reserves without clean water too. Of course not many tourists going to those.

It’s joking that they are against tap water
