Not necessarily. There may be a software update down the line that improves it, which Tesla has done before. I think that update only added about 5% though so it doesn't exactly look good.
Right. as time goes on, the lithium ion battery capacity will continue to degrade until it's just like that crappy laptop in the closet that only runs if it's plugged in. Batteries have a limited number of times they can be recharged. Only way to fix it is to either rebuild the battery, or replace the battery. Either is expensive, but not sure if it's cheaper than the cost of charging and replacing versus gas for the same time period. Remember, you can't charge your car for free. You either pay a higher electric bill, or pay a fee at the supercharger station. Lower end is about 25 bucks to charge up to full from 0 at a super charger. Compared to the last time I gassed up my Yaris, I paid 27 bucks, and I get about 250 miles from that full tank. Not sure if a tesla actually beats that or not. Doesn't sound like the Cybertruck does though.
Anecdotally, 0-80% at a supercharger on my M3 costs about $15, but I live in an area with relatively cheap power. It's also much less expensive (about 50% less) if you charge at home.
I have a hunch that it's driving the tri-motor configuration incorrectly, and I wonder if it's getting less horsepower as well.
I live in a ridiculously cheap area and my former Model 3 was $4.50 to charge fully.
That said, my friend in California would pay 7x what I pay so it really wouldn't work for them.
They very clearly understand it’s shit. Stop acting like “gotcha gullible idiot”.
You’re a fucking moron.
Tesla suck
I have like 40,000 karma and thousands of posts over months, but sure I’m a Tesla bot account who was waiting for this moment to say Tesla is shit. You got me.
As a moderator:
This post was reported, so I'll talk about it here.
I recognize that you've been called a bot, and therefore you feel the need to "hit back". That's fine. But note that this discussion is getting too heated now and we need to take a step back and have a breather.
Further discussion in this topic will be more tightly moderated.
@[email protected]: Please don't call other users bots unnecessarily. I think we're all in agreement with the facts here. Tesla EVs can theoretically change their range with software updates, but such changes remain small and relatively unsubstantial (~5% range). Tempers have gotten testy here somehow. In my experience, its important for me to nuke discussions from orbit to stop them at this point. Please do not continue upon this insulting-path. I'm deleting many replies in this topic now to help calm things down.
I don't know how you're browsing KBin, so it may be showing up incorrectly for you but that comment was a reply to a different person calling me a bot.
I was saying 40K karma and the massive brand-risk things I say daily proves I'm not a bot.
Jeez, sorry, I thought I'd replied to another comment. I think Kbin is doing a fuck today.
Please address the comment you're applying to, because this reads a lot like you don't actually have a response to it.
There's some kind of misunderstanding between you and @eltimablo. I've removed both of your posts / insult-fest from below. Please be nicer.
As far as I can tell, everyone agrees that Tesla regularly lies about range estimates. But also EV firmware updates can change ranges (though only through small amounts: like 5% due to various software optimizations and the like). I think the disagreement between the two of you was revolving on how much this matters. But the bulk of both of your points seemed to be agreed upon, so I'm confused why the discussion got out of hand.
How does any of this relate to "software updates can improve EV range" in any way whatsoever? In no way have I suggested that Tesla didn't lie about their ranges.
As a moderator: I'm cutting off the discussion from here. Below are a bunch of stupid insults between the two users above. I get that tempers can get heated at times, but that doesn't mean the insult-stream deserves to stay unremoved.
Other guy is butts
At no point has this person defended Tesla. I get that you want to pick a fight with Tesla fanboys and have your script ready to go, but you should actually use it against people defending Musk. Go to the comments section of that verge article or go to Reddit instead.
Wow you totally missed the mark on this one. You took that comment of theirs way wrong and in the process look like a piece of shit person.
You have egg on your face, not them. And I fuckin hate Tesla.
Mate, what?
I was defending you.
Oh shit, my bad. Your icon looked a lot like the other guy's and I completely misread what you wrote.
I'm cutting off the discussion here. This response, and all those below, are not useful to the discussion. No bans have been awarded, everyone can get heated at times and that's okay, but it does mean that there's a lot of shit I have to clean up / delete.
This is spam and I am reporting it as such.
At this point I agree with you, though its more to do with heated tempers. As a moderator, I'm deleting the posts and leaving a few messages as warning. No bans awarded.
