These are some good quotes here, and I realize this is slightly off topic but:

The whole thing with Aloy having peach fuzz.

I just... I still cannot get over that.

How... how is it even possible that a great number of people who ostensibly clamored for more realistic graphics... screamed and cried about peach fuzz on a young woman.

The... seemingly the only possible explanation is that they had simply never actually seen a girl or womans face up close.

It still just shocks me that that outburst was even a thing that could possibly happen.

Like, I am an autistic and often socially awkward guy, a video gamer through and through since the 90s.

But I've had female platonic friends my whole life, and girlfriends.

And I know that girls/women, -shock horror- even many young guys and young men have peach fuzz!

Fucking baffles me still to this day.

I think it's two things:

  1. a surprising number of gamers (not actually surprising) who've never seen a woman up close, and
  2. a number who have, but still want only the purest fantasy women in their games.

In a world where butthole bleaching and completely hairless vulvas exist, there's going to be a lot of people who like women but only if you modify and reshape them to their personal standards of perfection. In other words, they know what real women are like, they just don't want that, and they won't be happy until that changes for them.

“Don’t you guys have moms?”

I have unironically received exactly that kind of criticism for having this opinion before, and I have received it from incel misogynist men, as well as seemingly misguided women and individuals of all kinds of different non cis genders.

Both of these kinds of people have accused me of being performatively baffled, as if i am simply doing this disingenuously to build a cult social media following or something.

EDIT: Elsewhere on the internet, not here on lemmy.

I don't doubt it. That is why I made sure to add the sarcasm tag, despite adding capitals on multiple words.

Lemmy has its share of assholes, I wouldn't have been surprised if that happened to you here either.

So far not yet, and I do appreciate the sarcasm tag.

I don't get why people get so riled up about things like that. Like the whole starfield thing, the dumbass gender debate. I played forza horizon with a friend because we both had gamepass for a month and he couldn't stop being weird about that they have body type 1 or 2, instead of male or female. People modding out rainbow flags out of spider man, and it becoming one of the more popular mods for the game. I couldn't imagine caring enough.

Do not forget the absolute insanity of Trans People Are Not Allowed To Exist in CYBERPUNK 2077, you know a game about a genre of challenging social conventions that has long historical crossover with the Trans Movement and community.
