I think it's two things:

a surprising number of gamers (not actually surprising) who've never seen a woman up close, and
a number who have, but still want only the purest fantasy women in their games.

In a world where butthole bleaching and completely hairless vulvas exist, there's going to be a lot of people who like women but only if you modify and reshape them to their personal standards of perfection. In other words, they know what real women are like, they just don't want that, and they won't be happy until that changes for them.
