Relaxed section for discussion and debate that doesn't fit anywhere else. Whether it's advice, how your week is going, a link that's at the back of your mind, or something like that, it can likely go here.

It's certainly something to see all the different instance names :)
I can't join any midwest.social communities, I have to create a new account. Is this because my account is under sh.itjust.works and midwest.social isn't linked like Beehaw and lemmy.world? Not a question specifically for you, just anyone with fediverse knowledge.
are you on desktop or an app?
I know on desktop you should be able to log into sh.itjust.works, then click on the Communities tab and there will be a search box
if you paste [email protected] into the search box and hit search it will attempt to federate that community onto sh.itjust.works
it can take a minute to appear but the search result should eventually switch from no results to showing the 'cats' community and you can then view/subscribe right there from your home instance
same applies to any remote community, you need to search for the !community_name@instance_name from your home instances search box
Thanks! I'm on desktop and was successfully finding communities in search, just unable to join them - maybe it's finicky right now. I was finally able to join [email protected] and [email protected] under this account, but wasn't able to earlier. Opening any links (including from search) to community sites under the midwest.social instance would sign me out.
