As an outsider, I've never understood this reasoning.

Do American citizens really believe they can overthrow (or even coerce) their government by force? The US has the largest, most mobile armed force in the world, and has much more access to intel.

How would a band of citizens even come close to competing with that?

Yes, actually. We're the ones who run most of the infrastructure, including the military, and military personnel have already stated emphatically they refuse to fire on U.S. citizens on U.S. soil even if ordered to.

Millions of us are veterans and know how to operate military equipment we can just rip off from National Guard armories.

Millions of us could just go on strike, en masse, Gandhi style today and grind the economy to a halt long enough to force TPTB to surrender.

It wouldn't be difficult.

Our hurdle is us.

And TPTB knows this, and they play that card like a cheat hand in a poker tournament because it's all they really need.

This is exactly my point. Do American citizens have the capacity to overthrow / coerce their government by force?

Your answer is effectively: no. Thank you.

That's what I am here for. To help break the propaganda subjugating everyone else's minds so we can.
