On this day in 1945, Hồ Chí Minh announced the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to a crowd of thousands at the Ba Đình flower garden (now Ba Đình Square).
The Proclamation led directly to war with France, which concluded in the country being divided between French and self-rule at the 17th parallel. Vietnam would not achieve a unified, independent rule until 1976.
The Proclamation quoted heavily from the American Declaration of Independence and was vehemently critical of French rule. An excerpt reads:
"'All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among them are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.' This immortal statement was made in the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America in 1776. In a broader sense, this means: All the peoples on the earth are equal from birth, all the peoples have a right to live, to be happy and free.

Okay fun Idea lets colonize Venus, let me proceed to autism about the subject, you're coming along, whether you like it or not

First off, infrastructure will be some issue, but there are plans to make it work. Lets assume a 2100 era united World Socialist Republic is there for economical needs. Hopefully we don't have to rely on them for too long, there are a lot of other projects besides Venus colonization that they have on their plate.For starters I think venus is a far better candidate than mars for settling. because Elon can choke and die on the impossible planet while we get the fun one!
It just needs to, uh, chill!
Unlike most other planets, it truly has the potential to become a second earth (which mars can't without basically being gods)
Pro: Its in the goldilocks zone (massive W), way closer to earth, its got similar mass, and so it already has similar gravity
Cons: besides the acid rain and deadly heat, is the axis tilt is 3 degrees. Axis is obviously the invisible line through the poles of a planet that it rotates on. Axis tilts decide the weather and seasons. The problem here is that our earth has a healthy tilt of 23 degrees. Venus is essentially standing straight up. As well as the fact that each day on venus lasts 243 earth ones. That needs fixing. Also at surface level, the heat can melt lead.
despite that we can make it work, if ya'll don't want to be pussies that live in dumb floating structures. You're fucked if you ignite the atmosphere and the area there will immediately explode killing you and destroying the habitat. Its a dumb Idea, go to fucking Jupiter to get stupider.
that out of the way, be prepared to commit cosmic sacrilege, the math is within, but stating it directly is going to melt both our brains.
Okay first lets assess our resources!
First off lets just get some tech out of the way (these would be techs we would have by that stage of development):
The ISSR (the International Soviet Socialist Republic) has given us higher access to the already established cargo rocket chains that wraps around the solar system allowing us to transport materials we want where we wan them. We have discovered how to use mass drivers, basically a railgun that can shoot things out of low gravity, very useful to use for mining on moons and getting materials from the Earth's moon Station.
We have been given several Industrial printers, those are Giant 3D printers that can use metals and lay complex electricity as well, basically automated factories that are located in space (they can be moved down to the planets if they have room, and can also build other factories). The fancy name escapes me. They have accompanying service drones that can help move structures or build on the surface of the planet (with the materials). The factories can build basically anything we will need: vehicles, habitats, and space equipment. They can't build too big things all at once, though, those will have to be assembled in large pieces. like you cant just built a mass drive or those kinds of large structures all at once, even with accompanying service drones. They also can build too complex things like fusion drives. the ISSR imports them or we develop our own means of creating them.
We are given the full basic package for surveying a planet: Mining drones, survey drones, our own shuttles, those neat factories, some mobile space solar farms, basic hydroponic farm capsules, and a super big Hexbear space station (with our rooms and everything we'd need so far). Resources are tight, as space industry is extremely expensive, so we gotta make do with as much we can as possible. Earth can only give so much.
But our Hexbear space station is really cool, top of the line, with lots of labs, strong wireless connection that can reach throughout the system, a large control HQ, a giant supercomputer named Catra (yes I may be biased), the works. Although further expansions must be made and ground bases for better access in the future.
Now we've as we conclude setting HexStation's orbit around the planet, our survey drones have given us some data, which we've compiled with our previous knowledge to give us our natural resources and starting moves:
The fumes that come off the atmosphere of venus are chemicals used in rocket fuel! The dense atmosphere is mostly made up of nitrogen and Carbon dioxide, a reason why its hot enough to melt you. Since its a heavier gas than others like hydrogen and helium it allows you to have those nice floating cities. Its so heavy that a balloon of regular oxygen could make a stable floating gas for balloons. But I still recommend hydrogen more, and the carbon actually makes hydrogen safer than it is on earth, so no hindenburg. So I think we should set our factories to begin building blimps for our temporary atmospheric infrastructure.
Since the atmosphere is heavy our balloons can be insanely big, and graphene for the blimps is made by carbon, something not at all in short supply here. Carbon fiber would also be easy to manufacture, a very useful and strong complex alloy. This can help any power problem, since the days are 243 days long, we can stick solar panels on top of long blimp structures held in place by carbon fiber coils to slink around the planet and gather our energy. This can be used for mirror stations, which will be useful later. Temporary shelters could be easily done too, as it could literally be your room at home with enough oxygen inside and a party balloon attached and it would probably float. They are also useful for water storage, if one like giant floating water bottles.
Farms are easy to set up, since so much of the planet is consistently sunny, make some greenhouse blimps. Steady streams of food of any type. You probably want some potatoes after all those damn hydroponic lettuce salads. Also can be useful for any biological testing you do in the future... like lichen that can grow on the rocks of Venus wink wink

DON'T GET COMFORTABLE WITH THE BLIMPS WE ARE GOING TO BE ON THE GROUND THAT'S FINAL! The amount of effort to go just to get all this shit to venus would be lazily used if we just set up a balloon city and call it a day. Although useful for industrial situations and creating stations above mining areas for collection, as cities they're impractical. The blimp would need to be so absurdly large to carry all the basics of a city (adding on the weight of the radiation shielding, which would need to be a fuckton), and it would be enormously expensive! And also we don't know if there are some alien monkeys down on the surface who might take offense to the flying structures.Another helpful thing is that those blimp structures (shut up again temporary) can be used to remote control mining drones on the surface to prospect for materials. Venus is extremely rich in everything we could need. We just need earth to send over some of those mining robots to the surface to strip mine it (the later stuff will cover up this dw). The robots would mine away, collect the necessary materials, then just have some compressed hydrogen cartridges to open up a giant balloon on their back, and float up real cute-like to be collected. Resources could be deposited in a main station tethered over the site, then when full could launch a helium balloon full of the materials even higher into the atmosphere. A skyhook orbiting the planet would be able to pick up the package, and launch it toward the space drones waiting to take them in for processing.
a similar blimp and hook technique can be used to transfer people, tech, and whatever else you need back into the planet. Main hubs can be set up to facilitate people and resources for specialized on the ground work.
Congratulations! We don't need to build a space elevator! Good thing too because the materials to build the damn thing on a planet with gravity like venus or earth is a massive industrial effort. Balloons and skyhooks are far easier.
Due to the high atmosphere, we can also legitimately just hanglide around the planet, you just need a few cans of compressed air to give you a boost if you need one. So checkups on stations can be easy.
Now mining stations and other such basic infrastructure should be started to be set up around the whole planet, with beginning efforts focused on the expansion of our resources gathering, and establishment of a seamless system to provide a steady stream of the bountiful resources of Venus.
Okay do you realize how insane it is to have such a cheap way of setting up mining, science, and living infrastructure all around the planet. While at the same time a cheap, low energy, and safe method to transfer resources back and forth from planet to space? THAT IS FUCKING INSANE! THAT'S WHY WE LOVE VENUS! VENUS IS FUCKING GREAT!
(pssst if you wanna be real sexy and dangerous: A source of some cheap quick energy is all that geothermal activity all over venus. Set up some geothermal plants, and send the energy through cables to battery charging stations in balloons resting above them. Can be useful if you wanna use solar power infrastructure elsewhere, or for those areas of the planet that are dark for so long. 243 day in a single rotation.)
Okay this ease of access is highly likely in a realistic scenario too, its literally super fucking great. Just make sure to have your blimps float above or around any storms.

Now lets talk phase twoWe also need the heavy Atmosphere to clear out because its heaviness literally compounds the carbon dioxide so that it slightly breaks physics and becomes a liquid/gas hybrid that currently makes up the oceans. But worry about that later its easier to fix than you think. We just need to cool down the atmosphere
Okay there is a method I've seen where it is possible to use concentrated beams of light refracted from the sun by various mirrors to shred off the atmosphere of a planet, like concentrated climate change. But this time its a good thing! We're going to need a lot of mirrors and a machine the size of a skyscraper, and who in the hell would be able to power it! Although the vacuum of space is great at managing temperature. The real problem then turns into the sheer amount of insanely strong alloys. Well we are building a mini death star lol. You really need it, Venus has an atmosphere 120 times thicker than earth. Luckily the weak magnetosphere (that helps you retain atmosphere, also another reason mars is bad it doesn't even have one) will make this easier.
But its also a really stupid Idea. Don't do that. Just think of how stupid an idea that would be

But the thing is we're going to need about a small moon's worth of ice! Venus needs real oceans to sustain itself as a planet! It doesn't have enough h2o on the planet to make anything other than sad lakes!
But thats fukin okay! Saturn and Jupiter have enough, same with the vast amount of ice in the meteor belt. Collecting that is easier said than done, but the rocket fuel from slazering it is quite enough to make it a self sustaining sort of project. Just make sure to have grabbed it before freezing the entire planet into ice.
Lets stick with jupiter moons and the belts though, easier. Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto are good jupiter moon candidates. For those who want to rip apart Europe, lets say we use that moon! I was actually going to use that one anyway because it has a shitload of ice, probably 2 or 3 times more than earth Tossing it out of orbit and using jupiters gravity to thrower to venus. A Hohmann transfer iirc. Something almost biblical in its intensity.
Although uh warning its going to severely fuck up the gravitational path of anything near it. So you will have to throw it when the earth is on the other side of the solar system (mars can get fucked honestly, but ig you can do it when they both far.) this opportunity window is very fucking small. So you just have to push an ice moon out of the orbiter of jupiter (which is only a few planets worth of gas away from being a fucking sun), maneuvering it over the asteroid belt and past mars and earth (without fucking up the pathway of any meteors), and somehow moving the goddammed thing into the orbit of Venus. Doing all of this without accidentally fucking up the orbit of mars or earth, most likely killing us all. Okay, well that is hard but honestly not impossible. If you're devoting the full resources of a interplanetary civilization with at least some dyson swarm, you can scrounge something up. The best option is throwing even smaller moons (these ones are glorified meteors at it) with some well timed hydrogen bombs to move it out of orbit. Warning it will also be an eyesore, the ice planet will be 90% the size of our moon and several times brighter, so it will definitely be seen in the sky.
So we won't do that, thats dumb and a fuckton of work. Lets mine Europa, the ISSR needs help getting to the lower layers anyway for research. Take giant chunks of ice, put them on a mass drive, and send them shooting toward venus. The ice will either hit the ground, or break up in atmosphere. Either way more water yass its really good and necessary for a healthy balance.
Now you'll chuck all of that shit at venus while freezing its atmosphere with a giant mirror. (please pick up the soviet satellites beforehand, the are smol and cute). More water is better, get a healthy amount, and listen to your computers.
The glacial meteors can also be used to fix some of those rotational issues! Strategically target the landing of the glaciers an you can probably speed up the planet's spin to allow for a full earth 24 hours. Kidding, although it sounds easy, just to increase it to an hour it'd actually need a similar explosive energy of the Hohmann transfer we would have done with that moon. So uh maybe do in fact chuck Europa.
You won't be able to solve the tilt with this though, not even close! ΔW=1.55×1034J is for changing 90 degrees on an planet similar to earth's mass (which Venus is similar enough to). The science nerds will know that is an insanely fucking large amount of energy. Thats more than what you'd need to kick it like a soccer ball (an exaggeration). but while we only need to tilt it 20 degrees, thats still enough to destroy our moon. So tilting is off the table for now. But who needed winter anyways! I don't like snow and it seems to just be annoying to nature. Also we might not need the sun, as I'll explain later.

Okay now its been 80ish years and all that co2 and h20 has frozen, leaving venus a giant ice planet. With an atmosphere, although earth like in size and pressure, its entirely nitrogen. Although it looks pretty cute, its got continents and islands and all kids of earth stuff.now we need the planet warmer, because we want earth 2 not planet siberia. but if the co2 warms, it just becomes what it was before, so you need to do a special thing.

Now the great green begins my comrades. The atmosphere is still basically all nitrogen, so some nitrogen fixers, really basic ones, outta do the trick. Hopefully those greenhouse farms were being used for more than vegan burgers. You should be loading up several planes with microbial iron supplements, and the key to it all: Cyanobacteria. This girl is one of the first, if not the first, organism on planet earth. It is perfect. Deploy that in your oceans, and you got a living planet.
Now these girls are wonderful, as you drop their through the ocean, using the supplements and mirrors to accelerate growth. You'll have beautiful nitrogen fixers all across your oceans. These girls absorb the nitrogen and release oxygen, as well as releasing various nutrients that are essential to more complex organisms. Your oceans are becoming fit for life. Its a torrent from there. keep inserting gradually more complex microbe organisms.
monitor and speed up this process by whatever means necessary, they need to start making the water habitable while making the atmosphere have oxygen.

Don't fuck with Europa though (At least not without many decades of surveys confirming beyond all doubt there's nothing living in that ocean), take the ice from the belt instead.

You can terraform venus without and crazy insane shit like you need for any other planet. And it can be done all the way up to the plant growth stage in 80-120 years. By that time I expect 120 years to be the human lifespan, so many would see its beginning and completion. It would be an achievement 2nd to a dyson swarm or ftl drive. This is not if earth devoted all of their solar efforts to this project. Stripping the co2 ice would be a matter of one or two five year plans (IN SPACE).
Slazers are good if you want shit melted fast, and it can burn off an atmosphere if you build a big enough one. They're also just so wacky I love them. There is a way I've seen that just peels off hydrogen from the sun itself and directs it at the planet. Far bigger, far harder to make, but it could peel off that atmosphere in a few years.
But I really like the idea of keeping the co2 ice, you never know when you need it. So sadly, I could not make them the main focus. Although I see them being very useful in some areas you want to speed up melting.
Maybe any leftover capitalists you can leave planet side, and then they have to watch a wrath of basically biblical proportion, the of the wrath of the sun itself, descend from the heavens to destroy them.
I was thinking similarly, since there are a lot of small moons of ice just floating around there, but I wanted to give a surefire option. We know for sure europa has a fuckton of ice, and we know we can use jupiter's gravity to shoot it. Although to see if theres life, they're going to need some ice removed anyway. We could also take almost 1/4th of the ice of the planet without really effecting the lower layers. Thats still contents equal to half our ocean. I see what you mean though, lets take more from the belts instead. Less pressure on a celestial object we've had for centuries would be nice of course, especially ones we have observed for a few hundred years.
Also I forgot to mention, the little co2 moon is moved by further collisions. Plan out an orbit path you'd want to speed up rotation and tilt, and start sending shit along that path to hit together into a moon. Any further adjustments? Divert some co2 ice to build up a mini moon or large asteroid that will accelerate and hit the big moon into alignment.

Now that's a solution to NIMBYs I can approve of.
I don't really expect to find life in Europa, but it's less unlikely than any other non-Earth place in the solar system. Also, why lift ice out of a gravity well when you can just throw the stuff that's already floating?
Carbon and Oxygen are both really handy and once you're throwing slazers and dyson swarms around liberating them is no longer really an energy concern so I agree with keeping the CO2 moon around.
Drilling through kilometers of ice is something we should develop anyway in the near term to help try and slow down Antarctica's slide into the sea.
Also new Idea, We could easily develop the plants and animals beforehand through experimentation in some early cylinder habitats. Pretty simple to build, uh actually insane space stations that can internally have a space the size of new york city AT LEAST. They take a lot of resources but are insanely useful, as if you basically picked up a chunk of earth people could live in, used for farming, or my current use: ecosystem modeling. They could be used to model the gravity, atmosphere, and sunlight exposure on our post-thaw Venus. It would take a lot of transportation of raw soil, nitrogen, and water just to build the internal habitat, but it would be worth it. With resources from earth, you could gene edit existing plant and animal dna, creating creatures and organisms to survive in this cylinder. This space, you probably just need a single one, could be used for all ecosystem modeling for venus in the future. Then once the conditions of the green phase arrive, you have really good candidates for starting up an environment.
I love space
Once you start building Sides, the need to terraform planets at all goes down drastically. The matter efficiency of space habitats is far greater than that of planets, actually.
The Culture perspective that terraforming itself is ecologically unsound does hold some appeal to me, but it is much more of a Fucking Magic than an Actual Machines kind of setting.
