Yup Witcher 3 DX12's performance in Novigrad is straight anus. Dropping from ~130 to ~70fps in a crowded Hierarch Square. That's with frame gen, so latency feels more like sub-60. At least you don't really do any fighting there so little gameplay impact.
Also it's wild to me how much smaller this game is compared to something like AC: Odyssey. I remember being blown away back in 2015 ("White Orchard is just the tutorial zone?!") but now it's refreshingly compact compared to newer releases
Really hope we scale back on map sizes. The two Horizon games had smaller maps than Skyrim apparently and they never felt small! Smaller, denser, and more focused (fewer side quests, fewer collectibles) open worlds would be really appreciated unless there's some reason that the open world feels justified. Like I get it for Bethesda's games since they throw you into a world you're supposed to explore, for the AC games which purported to be story first it never quite did.
I think the denser world is why TOTK has been held in much higher regard than Breath of The Wild. BOTW Hyrule feels extremely empty in comparison to TOTK.
Honestly I think what made the original great was how easy and natural exploration felt, and the new abilities and features only enhanced that. Always felt what was magical is they understood exactly the appeal of BOTW and doubled down on it.
back when I still played vibeo gane I was happy to get stable 30-40 fps. Grew up playing on awful hardware torching some AGP card just to get like 25 fps lmao. I got better hardware but I never really acclimated to the point where I need 60+ fps at all times let alone high refresh rate stuff above that, even if I did have some appreciation for the smoothness
