Shit. I keep forgetting to switch instances again. Any suggestions on a decent replacement?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 day ago

Lemmy.zip has a similar federation policy to lemm.ee

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Dbzer0, sopuli, literature.cafe.

Here's what I believe are the top considerations:

  1. See which instances are blocked just add /instances to the end of the site. Like: lemm.ee/instances or sopuli.xyz/instances

  2. Check out the "all" for the instance of that's important to you. Each all is different depending on your instance (it's based on what other users on the instance are doing).

I'm going to flip to PieFed since Voyager now has started beta support. I'll be on piefed.social

I just don't want to go yet...

I have a literature.cafe from even before my lemm.ee account, but it doesn’t federate with piefed (at least in any way that I’ve noticed). Several communities I follow switched to piefed so I wasn’t able to see or follow them with literature.cafe

lemme.ee is shutting down at the end of this month.

The admin team is understaffed and suffering from burnout.

You still have a few days to gracefully transition your account to another Lemmy instance.

Wait is there a way for me to move this account or am I misreading phrasing

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No, you can't move the existing account. But I think you can export your settings, including subscribed communities.

It might be a good idea to add a description to your lemm.ee account saying what your new account is, kinda like a forwarding address, because people will still be able to view your old account from their instances.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s what I thought it just sounded like I could move the actual account

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

No, the best you can do is, if you want people to know your new one, is edit your profile now with a link to your new account. Because your old posts and profile won't be gone when lemm.ee is gone.

Take a backup from settings. It contains subscriptions, saved posts and blocks

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didn’t know I could export save posts

Do I just go to the lemm.ee website and export that?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Yes, go to site and into settings.

[–] feannag 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I believe you can export settings, subscriptions, etc and apply them to a new account. Not old post or comments or anything.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah that’s what I thought it’s just they made it sound like I could export the actual account

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago

As someone who just switched, this isn't something you should sleep on. I tried another instance and it was insanely slow in comparison. You might need to try a couple of places to get it right.

I mean, I don't really know what makes a great instance. Lemmy.ca has never made me regret my decision though?

[–] gigachad 6 points 1 day ago

That's because lemmy.ca is a great instance!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

Most of us moved to .zip. Some moved to db0 and piefed.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

I jumped to piedfed.social (and so from lemmy to piefed as well). The admin on my new instance is really great, reminds me of @sunarus back when I started on lemm.ee.

https://piefed.social/

Worth a look, I think, for all the great new features added to piefed, on top of what Lemmy (the server software) offers. Piefed is still compatible with Lemmy and the fediverse in general.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Not .world

I need to switch.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

I went .zip seems to have very similar vibe to .ee

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

this one seems pretty decent and has a similarly sparse blocklist
