No one is illegal–period.

Which is, of course, a refutation of a ridiculous straw man, because no one is actually labeling the people themselves illegal, when referring to them having immigrated illegally. It's a deliberate cringy misinterpretation of simple shorthand.

If you call someone a thief, are you saying that they are theft, or are you saying that they stole?

@damnedfurry @gaja calling someone an illegal immigrant is specifically meant to dehumanize them. Right wingers don't do that with other offenses. We don't have illegal gun owners, illegal tax payers, illegal drivers, illegal hunters, heck they don't even call abortionists illegal doctors.

Right wing rethoric absolutely labels the persons themselves as the problem and not what they have done. Its is about "illegals" and not about "people who immigrated illegally"

???

"An illegal" is literally slang for "a person who immigrated illegally". They are expressing the same exact thing.

Yes, the same exact thing ... as the other person is saying is bad and wrong. They're calling people illegal.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No, they aren't, it's just shorthand.

That's like saying that calling someone a "thief" is equivalent to asserting that that person is stolen. Actually pay attention to the absurd logic twisting you are employing here.

Yes, conservatives DO use bad logic when they call people "illegals", I'm glad we agree on that, even if you do not understand it.

So calling people who steal "thieves" is also 'using bad logic', then, according to you. Because they're "people who steal", and using a single word as shorthand for that is actually just a sinister rhetorical tactic to dehumanize them.

Absurd.

Your inability to grasp this is rsther hilarious.

As even the simplest analogy demonstrating the fundamental flaw in your reasoning sails clear over your head, lol.

I'm only unwilling to cling to demonstrable nonsense in the name of preserving my biases. You should try it sometime.

Your obstinance does not make you right and does not magically make Republicans not racist assholes calling people illegals.

Your obstinance does not make you right

No, but being right justifies being obstinate about it, under pressure to betray reality in favor of a more comfortable narrative.

You're imbuing and assuming motives to serve your prejudiced biases, and I made it very obvious that you are doing so, by pointing out how ridiculous the exact same line of thinking looks in a situation not tainted by those biases. You certainly would think someone was crazy if they were to insist that there is any real tangible difference between the descriptors 'thief' and 'person who stole', yet you're making the exact same kind of insistence, because you need to, otherwise your prejudices might be challenged.

The fact that you have not even attempted to find any flaw in what I'm saying, and have chosen instead to defensively 'nuh uh' at me, only makes it more obvious how hard you're coping.
