The only difference being Meta and Alphabet are the names of parent companies that Facebook and Google created to own themselves

The Meta rebrand was definitely about escaping baggage associated with the name Facebook. Alphabet you're right about though.

They also wanted to own VR and rebrand it as meta. I don’t think that moved worked out for them.
