This makes me realize that I want desk toy which is metallic, heavy and has a satisfying mechanical action, but which does not resemble a firearm in appearance or function. Basically all the tactile experience of playing with a revolver, but none of the legal or emotional baggage.

I have a metal airsoft pistol that I keep at my desk for this reason 😅

Sounds like a metal stapler to me.

Replacing a thing of staples in a good ol' fashion stapler always makes me feel like swapping magazines in a gun.

A balisong maybe? You can get a decent trainer (one without a blade) for like 30 bucks

Get a good, heavy flipper knife. Still dangerous but not nearly as dangerous as a firearm, and really good practice to be able to quickly open if it's your EDC. I use a CRKT M16-13z LEK (the heavy law enforcement version)
