Dove knows that the right wing outrage machine will advertise their products for free if they partake in the culture war. And they know left wing customers will specifically buy their products specifically to spite the right.
This was a calculated business move. All advertising is. Don't believe that they care about you or any other trans people.
Unilever cares about you if you're shareholder, or a mark.
Seems like the advertisement is working as intended. I found This video goes over how brands can leverage "woke outrage" for profit.
If they are making the advertisement anyways, representing trans women seems better than having no representation though.
