You are misunderstanding my point if you think I am suggesting these people are only making jokes, my point is they don't understand to emplace a real threat inside or anywhere near a joke irradiates the landscape of joy and forecloses the possibility of real comedy, ESPECIALLY when you are punching down at vulnerable groups using stereotypes and cheap digs to get laughs. These people can't be funny, because they want to hurt people and they use jokes to tip toe around bragging about it in public.
I think we agree in general, except I don't think they always believe they are being funny - but even know it isn't to some people. I could make a joke about a black man or a Jew in a bar, but if I tell that joke to a black man or a Jew the intent is no longer to be funny even though I might still think it is a great joke. It is like an insult with a baked in excuse. These men are evil and not the brightest, they do stupid things; but they are not ignorant fools and I don't think they are blind to the harm they do - I think they know how hurtful their 'jokes' are and like harming these people. It's not just trying to be funny while lacking a sense of humour.
