I can't believe Roosevelt and the Joint Chiefs of Staff just said, "Fuck it. Let 'em sink the entire 7th fleet, almost our entire Pacific Force."

If there had been such a conspiracy, I'm guessing they would have accidentally "ambushed" Yamamoto after letting him raise a little hell.

they knew that Japan was reaching too far and would lose more in attacking then they would gain. The distance to the nearest Japanese port was extreme. The US would be able to counter attack before they could resupply
