Yeah this would be an insane decision and there'd be tremendous backlash, not to mention it being stupid financially, since Half Life 3 will make them more money than God, but that's only assuming it's actually playable by most people.

The only way I could see this working is if they somehow made it so that the Steam Deck was far and away the best way to play HL3. Don't make it exclusive to it, just figure out a way so that it would be unthinkable to play it any other way because of how great an experience using the Steam Deck to play it is, to the point of being the reason anyone who hasn't yet gotten a Steam Deck (who conceivably ever might) runs out to get one. I really don't know how they'd pull that off though.

Heavy integration with the unique features of the Deck's controls. Utilize the touch screen, trackpads, and extra buttons. Trick is not making it feel gimmicky.
