This is why "subscribed" (opt-in) and "block community" (opt-out) are a thing.

So what if some lower-value subreddits migrate here? I never browsed those subs on Reddit, and I don't have browse them here. What I care about is more activity in the topics I am interested in, and that only comes with more users.

It isn't about the community itself.

It's about the memory mentality behind the community.

Once you get communities built around snark, you have people looking for things to snark about.

When you have something like "that happened", or whatever the actual name was/is, you have people running around looking for chances to link to posts and comments so they can snark about it in the snark community

It's the exact opposite of what's good about lemmy. And it's at the core of why people that don't use reddit long before the api shit hate reddit. That's the single biggest complaint about redditors, that they're just shitty, snarky assholes. And it's fucking true. You can't go anywhere on reddit without some twat being snide

You can't opt out of assholes running around lemmy making it shitty, and that kind of community draws the assholes.
