Its too bad this is the way they feel they need to show their partners affection on Valentine's day; a huge waste of money directly into the maw of the capitalist machine.
Absolutely! Don't waste your money on meaningless trinkets! And even better, if you ask me -- don't celebrate Valentine's Day at all! My partner and I don't do anything for it, we just do things for each other whenever we feel like it, and we're happier that way.
I met my partner one v day and we first said I love you the following year the day before, so it has significance for us. She gets me a bag of Lindsor chocolates, I get her a bouquet of flowers, we write a card and are happy.
It about contributes to the capitalist machine as much as anything else I do: watch TV, read a book, go to the theater, drive to work, pay a guy to fix my roof...
I think watching TV and going to the theater are unhealthy too, but that's a larger conversation.

Wasn't the whole day invented to basically make meaningful romantic gestures impossible in mid-February?
