More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Non American , and non brit here. Why is this waste of energy so interested in the UK and Europe now ? I know there will be plenty of cynical takes which I will probably endorse however I’m interested in what his actual motivation might be. Does he just want parties in power in the given country that he has influence over for the sake of legislative advantage for his businesses? Or is it trollconomics for sake of driving signups to his failing social network I forget the name of?

Trump could be soliciting bribes by threatening people as well, but musk is the one giving him directions.

"Oh yeah, Canada will pay up just yell some shit about invading."

it’s all a big ploy to give the US bargaining chips when negotiating with the UK for trade agreements.

“well we’re going to tariff the shit out of you unless we can sell chlorine washed chickens in your country”

“oh also fuck your publicly owned railways and roads, you’ll sell them to us at a discount or you’ll be sorry.”

“by the way we’re still going to endorse and fund far right parties and destabilise your democracy - that’s just what allies do, right?”

Publicly owned railway? Hold on there Thatcher!

The labour gov is pretty much planning to nationalise rail again.

All contracts as they expire will be replaced with co ops or a new nationalised company. By 2027 apparently.

So yep public owned rail again.

Not rolling stock, though.

The current leeches don't even own the trains.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

True.

But as much as I hated privatisation.

If owning the trains was required. Then sort term contracts would be impossible.

Making what labour is doing now, as expensive as the more right wing keep falsely claiming.

So we sorta have some gratitude that the tories never required the same companies to own the rolling stock as run it. But instead sold it to banks requiring them to rent it.

He wants to be king of the world, it's as simple as that. He already has the most money (not that that'll stop him from wanting more), now he just needs to have the most power, and actively supporting the rise of fascism around the world (which he has been doing for long before he let his mask start to slip and now completely come off) is his way of getting it.

The fact that you think he bought twitter, or is running it the way he is as some sort of troll, rather than a very real, and very effective, way of manipulating the public as well as politics as a whole, shows how well it works.
