Some of the comments you see on posts of young women announcing they’re “barely legal” and in the comments you’ve got >45 year old men saying what they’ll do.
It’s just so creepy and unsettling.
Have you ever talked with a woman about her experience working in STEM academia?
45 year old men making gross propositions is not at all unusual. And often those are the people deciding whether you have a professional future.
Just STEM in general. My wife almost left her engineering program because harassment came from the male students as well as the male professors. The handful of women in my engineering school all hung out together and moved as one. Strength in numbers and all that. It was really shit for them. Dudes would just yell “omg girls here???” anytime they walked into like any class. Some profs too.
I can’t say that I have and my comment was in no way meant to that it doesn’t happen to them.
That's what we invented cancel-culture for, isn't it?
That doesn’t apply when you’re a PhD student and your supervisor is the tenured department head. You can try blowing everything up to pursue a sexual harassment case but that’s gonna be the end of your PhD.
