Yeah, not sure if "killed Gandalf" but definitely "got Gandalf killed" is more accurate.
Im about to look a fool but i just rewatched the trilogy again a month or 2 ago and cannot think of how the balrogg is his fault? The noise?
They were doing a pretty good job of going unnoticed until Pippin dropped stuff down the well.
Might have made it over the bridge without getting attacked at all.
The bucket falling is what disturbed the gobbos who in turn woke Durin's Bane. That or the bucket straight up woke the balrog. It's not entirely clear but Pippin is for sure responsible.
Yo maybe pippin's bucket hit the balrogs noggin and took the 1hp necessary for Gandalf to win. Eh? Ehh?
